Well I did a follow up on the replacement motor I ordered and was able to cancel it after running a carfax and finding the motor had 97000 on it in 2008. It had a salvage/recontructed title at that time. It was then sold and driven again with no increase in mileage at all through 2017 when the salvage yard took it after being totaled out again this year.

I am in this for the long haul and want a motor I can trust. I can't find anything used worth going after. So now I am looking for a remanufactured engine.

Alright guys you win. I have been reading some old posts about not removing the bearing caps and main seals. I still don't completely understand it but I am not touching the bottom end other than a pan gasket. Engine seller also said not to mess with oil filter adapter.

Like in my case; if you're okay with the machine shop doing the work they need to then there isn't an issue building 3800's. People were always scared of it because it was never done properly. If it's still in working order, like I said earlier...re-gasket everything...clean it all...and toss it in. It'll work just fine.
