So I have a few questions. I have a 2004 Impala SS (L67) with 260k miles I am looking to freshen it up for a cross country drive.

My original thought was to rebuild the engine in whole but after some research I've heard the bottom end of these can be very finakie to rebuild, so now the plan is a top end rebuild.

My question is with a bottom end at 260k should I get new push rods or leave them? Or should i defure to my original plan and rebuild the whole thing?

I'm looking for some guidance so anything would help. And this will be a 100% stock rebuild.

Just leave it alone. If it's running fine, don't mess with it.

260k, is it eating oil? Done a compression test, leak down and there's an issue? Leaking? Running rough? Why rebuild if there's no problems. General maintenance should do fine, all filters, fluids, check sensors like O2's, plugs, etc., cooling fine? AC? How's the Trans fluid look? Suspension?

As mentioned, if it ain't broke don't fix it., but you can give it some TLC...

Do a search on "pontiacbonnevilleclub.com illustrated rebuild of a L67" it's an old thread, but good nonetheless.

theres a great write up... Although many will tell you it's easier and cheaper to bust by a JY engine should you need one. Just figured I'd share.
