they are shifting focus onto the G8.... but with pontiac going bye bye... I dont know what is in stoe for them.
meh, i doubt anything will change for a while...
yea, but that really sucks... i wanted that thing. are there any other good ones out there in that price range? (think it was about $500)
Unless you want to ante up $1300 for a GM Racing / Quaife differential its not worth the money because all it will do is cause problems down the road and there is no better guarantee of two wheel burnouts than with an open diff. I wont warranty a transmission with one of these installed and ZZP has the same rules because they have proven themselves to cause trouble over time and put metal in the pan and eventually completely fail which I have seen and have leftovers with pics if you want to see what 30K miles of daily driving will do. If it was a limited street use car and mainly saw the dragstrip it would be one thing, but every day driving really tears them up as they eat themselves up since the side gears are in a constant bind and this causes the spider gears to chew into the cross pin.
The GM Racing diff is a torsen diff. It's gear based so no clutches to fail.
Torsen diffs are limited slip, yes. That's the point. Like I said it's gear based instead of clutch based. Here's more info for you:

mmmmmmmmmm $1400, not getting done lol
yea price is steep.... make it a down payment on a nice 6 speed c5
The Torsen type diffs have gears inside that bind when one axle has more torque going to it than the other. There is virtually no wear in this design as it simply will operate smoothly and bind itself to make both axles grab and wont have clutch wear problems that a clutch style diff has, and the fwd diffs have just one tiny clutch per side which isnt nearly enough needed to do the job. In the rwd differentials that use clutch type limited slip differentials there are often 4-5 clutch plates on each axle/side gear in the diff that are purpose meant to be used there. The sad thing about the Torsen type diffs for rwd applications is that they can be bought new for $350-$500!!! Thats the problem with low quantity no demand parts that is in the fwd market. Sure lots of people want one, but there is never going to be an order of 1000+ units placed at once to make the cost drop way down and big companies that specialize in high performance and racing differentials are not going to cater to low and limited quantities as there is no money in it so we are stuck with the options we have. From the guys that have the GM Torsen style diff they love it regardless the price tag and say it was worth the cost, but to most it is very hard to justify spending near the cost of a whole trans on just a diff
too bad....
they say it's worth the money, but what kind of number do they have as proof?
What are all the benefits for our cars?
From what I hear it isnt really the straight line traction, it is the drivability end of what makes the diff worth it, especially in rain or during agressive cornering and stabbing the throttle. Instead of ripping one tire loose easily the car wants to pull hard through corners and makes it a different animal. I would expect burnouts to be a little better than with an open diff but it is not a locking differential nor is any other differential for these transmissions so there is always going to be some risk of one wheel spinning at a different rate than the other.
once you said better handling I now am a little angry because that is what I want out of the GP.... now I'm gonna fork over $1300 haha
You know where I can find them for cheaper? How long would you say these last?
and haha chipmunk
could've shrunk it though... making my 3G edge network lag like crazy to load that pic haha
