I do know more that you. I have been around cars since before you were born. I have been driving since you were in preschool. I could tell just by your responses how old you are. Its a mentality. Don't worry, you will grow up and realize just how stupid you look eventually.

Alright then, Ill agree that you know more because your right, you do, you've been at it longer. But to say that I'm stupid is hypocritical, after all you were the one who directly antagonized me in an online forum. Im sure when you were 18 you had some stuPid things going on. I know I did for sure, my car before my GP was a jetta tdi, and I beat the hell outta that thing. Drifting with a fwd, reverse doughnuts, tire burning, and all sorts of other things, I know that that's what caused the car to go to hell and that's why I'm not doing anything like that with my GP so to say I'm stupid is itself a stupid statement. I've learned from my experiences and that's what I go off of.

To put an end to this argument (I know it will keep going, but anyways), while it may be considered drifting, it is stupid. In a FWD you are sliding the back tires, locked up, how do you control that... by easing off the brake and hoping it doesn't kick back the other way and putting you into a spin resulting in a crash? In a RWD you can add throttle to push further out, or let off to straighten back, once the back tires are locked up your just along for the ride, making it a stupid idea.

Secondly unless you have lowered the car (lower center of gravity), really stiffened up the suspension, and prepped the car for that kind of abuse (like the civic in the picture was, complete track car) the body roll on a stock height car at any good amount of speed could result in a rollover and KILL YOU or someone else! Any bump in the road while sliding (as 90% of most roads are ****, tracks tend to be somewhat smoother and better kept than back roads) could cause you to lose control and crash or roll the car. Second reason its stupid.

3rd and final reason its stupid is it is a 3500lb (not including you and your friends) car on the brink of being out of control is a not a good situation. The cars are too heavy to be ass-dragging around a corner, civics, 240s, miatas, etc are all light weight cars and most have a lower center of gravity so they make better drift/track cars. When I had my 01 Miata it was 2640 with me in it on the scales, with the solid suspension and close 6-spd gearing it was very fun around the corner, but I wouldn't dream of trying half the stunts in my GP just based on the body roll itself.

Overall, bad Idea. As I said, if you want a track/drift car, sell the GP and get something that can be modded to really corner.

Its not drifting... That is power sliding and its about as pointless as this entire thread.

Since you're such a knowledgeable guy and helping this kid push his way to ruining his car, do you want to take a minute to explain the damage that can happen to the vehicle by power sliding without a proper setup?

Now before anyone jumps on this, they kids driving lost control, over-corrected (common during drifting) and the car rolled. Both died. These cars are NOT designed for that. Its stupid and best kept to the track, with track built cars.

Looks like you guys were right after all, might as well just demoed every GP that's out there, sell it and buy a minivan because I guess that's what it is, a family car that has no place. So all the members with modded gps, according to these guys it's pointless anyways.

Sheff: did they not have their seat belts on or what?

    The passenger compartment looks fine.

That's another thing I find amusing: Open any GM owners manual and you find one third of it is safety and how to use the seat
    belt.

I have a modded GP, it is a waste of time and money.

At some point in their life they will all need LCAs, sway bars, struts/mounts/rear springs, wheel bearings, LIM gaskets, UIM (L36 only), trailing arms, fuel pump, fuel pressure reg, fuel injectors, rad, heater core, HUD (if equipped), trans, potentially chuck a rod bearing, tail lights, headlights, gas door hinge, etc.

    Great cars right?

Forgot to mention the rot issues.

These cars cannot handle the abuse of "handling" namely because the only reliable diff is the stock diff and that doesn't like one wheel peel so you have to be very careful when applying power around a corner.

Hey if you want to go out and powerslide (drift) then more power to you.... Not to mention if you like driving on octagon shaped rear wheels then more power to you also because what you are talking about will flat spot your tires and you'll be vibrating down the interstate in no time!! When you learn to drift perfectly in your GP holler at me and I'll meet up with you and we'll go up and down a mountain to see who wins, you sliding or me shifting and throttle playing around the turns. I can see ebraking every now and then in a parking lot to spin the rear around, I did it when I was young BUT I did it in my 1970 Chevelle or my dad's 78 TA or 70 El Camino. Heck I still do it every now and then in my Firebird (braking the back end loose on that thing is simple and it's heavy).. I like my rear tires to much to do it in my GP though..

    Just my $.02

That highway is literally about 10 minutes from my house.

Power sliding is stupid. Grand Prixs aren't meant to be modded.

You want to swap a handbrake into a FWD car so you can pull it when you want to mess around...that's not dumb? Please don't.

I've done lots of dumb stuff in my Camaro and it cost me, then did other dumb stuff, that I didn't do in my Camaro, in my GTP and it cost me. It's good to listen to the people who've been there before so it doesn't bite you in the ass, lord knows I didn't.

My GP is my dd, I don't plan on doing ANY mods. And I don't really do **** with this thing. That's why I have a truck to mess around with, just saying that if someone wants to drift in a fwd let them. Don't put them down. All I'm saying.

    No flames.

Have fun with the 6-spd. I feel for you with the 3.9. Mods are non-existent unless you really have bank, but since you would be buying a G6, you don't. It's also FWD so my opinion on "drifting" still applies, but whatever. If you're trading, I would go a different way, but to each his own I guess. Just don't wreck it.
