Hey im new here and have bought s 97 gtp and has a list of problems I will start with rust. Rockers are gone and its starting to make its way up the jam. Also the driver quaurter panel is bad. But shock towers are solid and so is most of floor also gas lines are leaking and runs rough at 1000 rpm. But I believe that goes on another post.

Honestly you may be able to find a vocational school that'll do the work for cheap (possibly the price of supplies). It's a learning experience for students but the teachers also make sure the work is done right (unless it's some hack school)

My old LeSabre had just surface rust on the lower fender/panel, the cheapest estimate I could find was $450 and thats just sanding and painting, the shops I trust wanted $1000+. Now you actually have rusted through so I don't know. I never ended up fixing the rust on the Buick and 4 months later I got a rear main seak oil leak, $1500 repair, so I chucked the car.

In my opinion, unless you know for certain that the car is mechanically strong or at least a valuable resale, I would not do expensive body work. There are plenty of rust free cars in the junkyard, and i'm sure some of them had expensive body work done...

If the rust is getting into the door jams, door sills, or pillar its not worth fixing.... Thats why I'm not doing it on mine. Ray saw my car a couple weeks ago and I trust his judgment. Maaco had quoted me close to a grand/slightly over that to fix the rust and that was with me providing the parts, plus having my car at least a week.... Other shops in the area (ones that are real professionals and that I've personally seen them put a car back together that had been severely damaged ) wanted up to 2500 or more.

The best advice I can give is drive it from point A to point B (wheels fall off) or try finding another GP shell that has little to no rust and transferring all your stuff to that shell IE engine, interior and such. Last choice would be save your money and buy something newer...

Well its not in the door sills or pillars and just to bottom hinges on door. It needs rockers ladders it whatever u call them that the rockers attach to and a quarter panel other than that strut towers are solid interior is pretty nice. Sub frame is solid. Steering is tight.
