Thread: Autopia Foglights Installed

Here's where to buy them.

I had to drill one hole in the stock bracket (bottom hole), and use the hole for the factory adjusters (top hole).


I then bolted the foglight into the two holes. The only thing that's a little odd about this kit is that it uses a different H3 connector than every other bulb. The white bulb installed with the kit uses the round connector, but the blue bulb that's also included with the kit uses the normal flat connector. You can see the black wire is their round connector and the blue wire is the normal flat connector (I bought selective yellow bulbs from http://www.candlepowerinc.com/). It won't pose a problem, as I can fit the square peg into the round hole (flat connector into the round harness).


Much better. The selective yellow bulb looks blue/silver when off, similar to the Silverstar turn signals.


Installed. These sit forward about 1/2" more than the stock foglights.


I haven't finished wiring these up yet, or even installing the other side. I may do that today, but since it's St. Patrick's Day I may not get to it today.

No, I don't plan on posting any pics with them on once I finish the wiring.

It is on the 17th, but most places are celebrating it on the 15th since the 17th is a work day.

Ask and you shall receive. I've had these working since last week, but by the time it gets dark I've been pretty well settled in and didn't feel like going out to take pictures (you can blame DST for that).

These pictures aren't the best (my first time taking nighttime shots). I may try to change some of the camera settings later and take more pics.

I'm overall very happy with these. They put out a lot more light than the stock 880 foglights, and have a nice, wide beam pattern. The selective yellow bulbs shine nice and yellow on the road, and really reduce glare on wet roads, making it easier to see the lane markings. When looking at the lights they look pretty white, about the same color as some older halogen headlights I've seen.

These lights do vibrate a little. They're a lot heavier than the stock plastic foglights, and I think the part of the bumper that holds them in is flexing under the weight. I don't know of anyway to fix this without finding something metal to bolt them to.

This first one really shows the difference in color between the selective yellow bulbs and the headlights (Sylvania Silverstars):


These next couple show the LED rings. The seven colors are produced by combinations of three colors (red, green, and blue). You can't see it in these pics, but from up close you can pick out the individual colors. These pics are of "white" (all three colors at once). They look a little purple/blue in person, and these pics show how much bluer they look then the Silverstars. I didn't take pics of all of the colors, but the only ones I'd probably use are this white or the yellow (red and green together).

I was kind of on the fence about the halos when I bought these, but I really like the way they look with our deep set foglights. One thing I don't like is, when you turn the main power on or when you turn off the foglights, it goes through a 30 sec demo where it flashes all of the colors. I'd really rather not flash red and blue lights on the front of my car (tends to attract attention from other cars with red and blue lights), but you can get around this by just using the main power to turn the foglights on and off (there are three switches, a main power, a foglight switch, and a switch to change the halo color).

I just bought a set of these tonight. Is there a way to wire these up to act like normal fog lights and have the halo's on a separate switch ? I do realize they have a controller I'm just trying to figure out in my head on how to wire them.

Yes, you can do that. I have mine setup that way. The foglights work off of the stock switch, and the halos work off of the Autopia switch. You could easily add another switch in there if you like.

Cool. I just noticed above that he mentioned something about 3 switches or something.

When you hooked your car up like you mentioned does it still do the 30 second thing with the halos when you turn them off?

I'm trying to figure out if you don't turn the Halos on they wont do the countdown when you power off your car will they?

Mine does not do that anymore. I ran a relay to switch the halos on, but have constant power to the Autopia switch...so it is always where I set it.

So essentially you have a live feed to the controller but have a switch between the live power to the Halos. Cool Idea. I might have to transform my cubby on the left of the steering wheel to a switch plate.

Does anyone make a plug for the stock foglight harness so I don't have to hack up the factory wiring?

I got a question for you. Did you just plug those prongs into the stock wiring or cut the plug. I'm kind of confused. Also my kit has the fogs wired into Autotopia's Harness with the spade and round plug like you mentioned for quick disconnect for changing bulbs i guess or to run it a different way.

Where did you mount your switch in your car too. I'm debating on a few locations right now.

^^My stock wiring isn't used at all. I just covered the connectors in tape to keep them from corroding and taped them out of the way.

I ran the switch on the driver's side of the center console, next to the climate control and ashtray. There's a seam where the lower part of the dash and center console meet. I ran the wire between the panels, and the switch sits right where the two panels meet.

Cool. What side of the firewall did you come through?

Passenger side. If you start lifting up the carpet in the passenger footwell, you'll see a rubber grommet with all of the other wires running through from the engine bay. I cut a small slit into the grommet to run the wires through, and I haven't had any leakage, even in torrential rains and deep puddles.

Here's a comparison of the white (red, green, and blue LED's) foglight halos to the Spyder Auto projector halos. As you can see, the foglight halos are very purple.


The amber halos (red and green LEDs), on the other hand, look much better:
