Anyone put Strobes on their GP?

I have the whelen strobe kit on my car and it's kick a**. I use it whenever I'm parked at a show or once in a while a parking light. as far as state law goes you cant have them on while in motion, but parked stand still theres nothing against it.

Also if I was assisting someone in an accident, i would have the strobes on so the cop can find me, F**k em if they want to give me crap about it. I'll happily argue my case in court about how my strobe lights were a warning signal to other people theres an accident and to slow down, plus as a pinpoint light for the cops to find the accident.

The Reflective Tape on the doors probably helped alot for vehicles coming by as a warning that there was an open door whenever I got in or out.

BTW, in an earlier incident today, had to help jump someone's car. Didn't work, there battery was totally toast or something else was wrong. But what I did notice was that the +/- terminals on the battery SUCK for using jumper cables. So has anyone done anything to the terminals on the battery to help make it easier to attach jumper cables? I haven't looked at them much since earlier today while helping them out, but just wondering if anyone has any ideas.

Question, do you and your family just drive around helping people along the highways? Seems to be that way from what i keep reading. You guys do realize you can get a job doing that and get paid for it right?... just sayin...

We don't just drive around and help people, but when any of us aren't in a hurry to get somewhere and someone needs help, we help them. Maybe this is something you guys should do as well, otherwise maybe you'll be the dead car on the side of the road and no one wants to help... just sayin

lol I have helped about two people, i must be unlucky, or lucky whichever way you wanna look at it. But i rarely see people who need assistance. All i'm saying is from what it sounds like you're out helping people every weekend (not saying thats bad) just seems like you're looking to do such a thing.

In Ontario, you can have blue strobes if you have a snowplow

Maybe you should become a ... cop?

If you use strobes on ANY public road in this state, you will go to jail.

If you are a civilian and have no authority, or unless you are a registered dealer, it's %100 illegal to run strobes on a public road.

I'm not going to get into details, but trust me, I know.

You're car has a built in system called "Hazards"

Use those if you want to pull over and help people, other wise you will be the one needing help.

X2^ I think its great you want to help out but why not work for the fire dept a great job if you can get it around here it's 24hr shifts and then you would have a permit for your lights

exactly what I'd use them for. minus the Parking Light, lol. Just for shows, at my house or some other parking lot, or for help with an accident or disabled vehicle. From what I've seen with my brother using him, pretty much every cop was glad he was there to help, and no one said anything negative about the lights.

I have had strobes on my GP pace car replica for 10 years Whelen 90 W in the front never got around to putting them in the back. Used them when doing parade laps at nascar tracks. Have not had a reason to use them on the street only tracks and shows. I found at indoor shows that they are too bright so I also have a set of street glow strobes for use indoors. I think using them while driving would get me a tkt very fast

But I see no problem with having them on a car if you want to spend that much money on something that will get very little use and you don't use them to get slow people out of your way

I put them in myself and there is no problem running the wires in a GP in the front take out the plastic cover over the wheel well and run the wires from inside thro a hole you can drill. With the plastic wheel cover removed look at the door hinge bolts you can see outside the head and with the cover inside pulled back you can see the bolts above this is a area you can see to put a hole in that will access the interior of the car. For those that care....(if you don't care, don't post anything please)

These lights will be used for emergencys, off-road use, car shows, private property or other situations where there are either no laws prohibiting use, or during an emergency when Law Enforcement, EMS, & EMT are, if anything, thankful that you have them and are helping them out.

I've decided on interior mounted LEDs only.

I bought some relatively cheap and bright LEDs. They are mounted on the back deck just infront of the rear speakers. 6 Housings total, Patter is as follows (as seen from behind the vehicle, A = Amber, W = White):
W-W-A ------ A-W-W

All wires have been been hidden below the carpet around the speakers and then along the Rear Window Pillar, Roofing, Front Window Pillar, along the Passenger Fuse Box, behind the Plastic Panel of the Passenger Footing area and then behind the Radio/AirCond plastic panel and down into the Center Console where the Switches and rest of the wiring is. The Switches are installed where the Ashtray is. Since I can remove the actual ashtray there is then a rectangular area underneath the retracting cover. I installed 2 Switches there. Top switch can be OFF-ON to control the 2 Amber & 2 White LEDs that flash together. Bottom switch can be ON-OFF-ON to control the 2 White LEDs that flash either in unison or alternating.

Power is split from the wires that supply the cigarette lighter with a 2 Amp In-Line-Fuse on each of the 2 power supply lines feeding to the lights.

Lights are finally done, if anyone cares to see I should be able to put some pictures up later today. If you don't care to see what my lights look like, then don't look and certainly don't post a reply.

Also, just 2 weeks ago a guy lost control of his Impala SS on the Toll Road and T-Boned the center dividing wall at ~50mph. I was the only person to stop and help him out. First making sure that he was ok, which other than being mad for totalling his car and some bruising on his chest, thighs and knees he was ok. Then moving debris that had ejected off of his car into the road, helping to prevent a secondary collision. All the while having a Neon Orange Safety Vest on and making sure traffic wasn't going to interfere with us at all. Called FHP (Florida Highway Patrol). An Orange County Police Officer completely just drove right past the accident and did nothing to help or make sure there were no injuries. After 5-10min Orange County Fire & EMS arrived to block the nearest lane and do their job. Once they got there I told them that I had just seen the accident and decided to help out, they were fine with that, and I told them I had to leave to go to my class (which I was late for because I decided helping this guy who could possibly be seriously injured was more important than getting to class on time). This was all before I had the LEDs installed and I was on the shoulder of the road with only Hazard Lights & my trunk open (cause I have a bunch of reflectors on the inside of my trunk for this very reason). If I had the LED strobes that I had now, more people would have slowed down near the accident and (considering it's the law to move a lane for emergency vehicles) hopefully they would have moved over one lane due to my White/Amber LEDs. All in all, guy was ok, I was ok, no one else got hurt, Impala SS was totalled and EMS/EMT thanked me for helping out as a first responder.

These are obviously when they are off during the day. I have noticed a few speeding people slow down and not pass me for a while because they probably think I'm an undercover cop, so I guess it has some built-in safety even when they are off.

All LEDs On. The Centermost White/Amber----Amber/White LEDs flash in unison and the Outermost White LEDs flash either in unison or alternating, depending on how I put the switch. (yes I know the far left led is missing one row of lights, I've got to fix that still). I'll get some night pictures once it gets darker.

My brother has 5 Amber LED setups behind the tint of the rear window and 2 Amber LEDs one on each side of the License Plate. His are a bit brighter, but they are also all Whelen and cost like five times as much as mine. My total Price was about $110.

One Whelen Amber Slim Lighter LED is $130. So to get a similar effect of solid amber it would cost $260 without all the installation parts for 2 Slim Lighters. They are a bit brighter but you can't get them in a split Amber/White. So when you consider I have whites as well, the white LEDs stand out more than Ambers. Plus they don't sell this version anymore, the new version has Super LEDs and costs $235 each.
