I'm wondering if anyone has put Strobes or LED Strobes on their Grand Prix. Most specifically the 2004+ models because I have an 04 GTP Comp G.

I'm looking at getting Whelen 6 x 90watt strobes for the brights, fogs & tail lights. Whelen Engineering - Systems - DOT & Motorcycle - Value Products, Strobe, Deck, Grille & Truck

Then installing the 2x Whelen SpitFire Plus White LED for the back window. Whelen Engineering - Dash/ Deck/ Visor - Dash/ Deck/ Visor, Directional

So has anyone done this or similar? It would be awesome to hear from anyone that has, or see any pictures/video of it.

Nope, my brother has strobes in his truck, he often helps with traffic accidents and such, his lights are usually brighter than the cops. Besides, if the Lights are all White or Amber, it's legal for offroad use, and most cops will permit you to use them on a street if there is a good reason for them. Also, if i ever have to work on my car along the side of the road, i can switch on the strobes to protect myself, my car and anyone else in my vehicle. It also works very well for the occasional tailgater, so long as no cops are around flash the idiot behind you and they stay very far behind after that. Also a sort of show addon just for kicks, but these same strobes will be added to a truck whenever I get one. And if you never say you are a police officer, then you aren't impersonating one. Another thing if people notice the strobes in my back window they will drive alot more carefully, which is good for how much highway driving I do. Even when off they provide a bit of protection.

Just yesterday I installed Reflectors on the inside of the trunk and put red/white reflective tape along the inside of the trunk lid and all 4 doors. So if I have to open the doors at night or even during the day, they will stand out more. I figured Black Car at night would be a bad car to have stuck on the side of the road or something, so on went the reflectors, if I could figure out how to post pics i'd put some up. I personally think the reflectors look really darn good, and doesn't effect the outside appearance at all.

Also I'm a lifeguard and i actually keep a bag with towels, gloves and seal easy (rescue breathing) masks in my trunk just in case I ever need to help someone along the road. In that instance, I would have every single light on in my car so emergency personnel know exactly where I am. Plus, in Florida there is a move over law where drivers have to give emergency personnel 1 empty lane or if they can't move over decrease their speed to 1/2 the posted speed limit.

    You need to rethink that.

Also need to check local code. Most states will not allow you to install lights viewable from windsheilds or back windows unless you a registered emergency vehicle. And also most places will only allow strobes on certain vehicles Ie: security, tow trucks, public work.

Yes off road only. If you use then off of roadways you have no problem, but as soon as you have them on any where that is maintained by the city then if a cop sees with with them on be prepared to be given a ticket straight to court.

Remember I'm in Florida, not as many rules here and even the ones that exist are mostly not enforced. Such as emmisions, window tinting, headlight colors, underglow, strobes, muffler sound, stereo volume and the list goes on and on. My brother has had them on for years on his truck. And if I'm not using them they can't do anything. And if I'm using them for a good reason most cops aren't gonna do anything about it. Just can't be an idiot with them and act like i'm a cop or something when i'm not. There are laws, and then their are cops that enforce the laws, but not all laws are enforced 100%. Remember all are gonna be white except the strobes in the tail lights, which will have to be red. White/Amber are legal, Red/Blue/Green are illegal, but for cars without a choice like my GP, the red will be tolerated, especially for emergency situations, which is the most likely use for them.

The one thing a cop can say is that the lights are blocking my vision, but if they are mounted outside of my normal viewing range that arguement goes out the window.

We are gonna put strobes in my dad's 2010 Camaro as well, to make it lite up even more than the Pace Car was, but his Camaro is a show car.

I've got Whelen strobes and LED's installed on my 01 GP. Before people jump all over this, I am a career and volunteer fireman and have all the permits to use and display them. I've got the strobes in the front corner lenses and rear brake/turn lenses. I have a pair of LED's behind the front grills and a windshield mounted mini bar. The windshield LED was a late addition due to the lights in the front grill and lights are so low. Generally when I was behind someone, my hood line was below their trunk line and hence below their line of sight through their rear view. Thats why I added the windshield unit.
Go with the Whelen units, you may a bit more, but trust me you get what you pay for! The cheapies burn out quickly and their power supplies are garbage.
Make sure to check your local and state laws in regards to these units. The color of the lenses will make a huge difference if you are using them and get pulled over. From what I am familiar with, you are pretty safe in all states using amber lenses and ok with red in the rear only. But red, green, and blue require permits to be used firing forward, and white firing forward is generally legal only if you are an emergency type vehicle. But like I stated, every state is different, so check it out before you start using them. All it takes nowadays is a cell phone call to 911 with your license plate number and you can be in a world of hurt in a hurry, regardless if you state to somebody your police officer or not. BE CAREFUL.
I'll try to post a video or at least picts of them when I get a chance.

Yeah, my brother has Whelen Strobes & LEDs, that's why I'm getting the same company. I know for Florida forward facing Blue/Red/Green is illegal. White/Amber is permitted for construction and from what I understand civilian use. So I'm sticking with White for everything except for the Strobes in my Tail lights which are red by default. Once again, from what I understand, acceptable. Maybe not entirely 100% legal, but laws can be bent, not broken. So long as I have damn good reasons for their uses, I don't think I'll ever get into any trouble.

It's called hazard flashes dumb ass. Your 'strobes' have no ability to save anyone's life at anytime. The only thing they have the ability to do is ruin your own life. You want to try it, then go for it.

We have caught multiple people moving and stationary for DUI and DWI in my personal vehicle as well as helped city, county, and state, on multiple occasions, and not one of those have called for the need to identify ourselves as police officer and use strobes. The only thing you need to do in any instance is have a cell phone and inform emergency personal, then let the people who know what they're doing handle the situation.

Remember, strobes can be back or front. If i was helping someone in an emergency I can have the back lights on so vehicles driving up will stay out of the way. Hopefully making people slow down and reducing the chance of a seconday collision. Plus, it would make it easier for emergency personnel to know where I am, they could see me from a mile away. Plus, if I was using them for an emergency, the police aren't gonna do squat.

Why does everyone think that if I have strobes I"d be identifying myself as a police officer? does strobes = police or something? cause police, fire department, ems and construction all use strobes.

lets argue some more. put on ur strobes, and maybe try to explain to a cop that ur "not a cop" and he will soon realize ur not impersonating one. I mean noone ever gets arrested and charged for wearing a police uniform and making there way into someones house and steeling, or rapping them because they did not "say they were cops" so they were not impersonating them. thus their lawyer can get them off on a reduced charge.

lets not, i'm asking if anyone got strobes installed, not for opinions from people who don't have strobes and don't want them. I'm looking for feedback from people who either already have strobes or are interested in getting them. If you don't fit into that category then stop filling this thread with bs, I know i'm a new guy here, but this is kinda bs.

As further defense for my strobes, tonight on I-4 in Florida there was a Ford Truck along the right side of the road, hazards on, jumping up and down hoping someone would stop and help. I was that someone, had my dad, mom, and brother with me so I passed him before I really noticed him jumping up and down, and decided to help. Slowed down and stopped on the side of the road, backed up for 50ft to get closer, but still stayed about 50ft from his vehicle. Dad, brother & I got out figured out that his back right tire was blown and he had left his tire iron at home the last time he had used it, luckily I have a 4xcross iron so I easily had the right lug size to help out. Got that and my trusty Maglite LED DD Flashlight and handed them to my brother and dad, they helped him with the tire as myself and my mom stayed in the car. Didn't need 4 people working on a truck. My brother used the maglite for extra light and to warn cars on the closest lane to move over, for the 10min, all but 3 did. Luckily there were 3 guys in my car, so we weren't worried about possible theft or injury (there was extra protection that won't be discussed) and we had the right tools to do the job. The Reflective Tape on the doors probably helped alot for vehicles coming by as a warning that there was an open door whenever I got in or out.

But, if I had 2 rear face white strobes and maybe 2 rear facing red strobes, I know people would have stayed out of the way and been alot more alert about the situation. Though I'm glad everything worked out with the way my brother used the maglite to get people to move over, if a maglite worked, i'm sure white strobes would have worked much better.

BTW, in an earlier incident today, had to help jump someone's car. Didn't work, there battery was totally toast or something else was wrong. But what I did notice was that the +/- terminals on the battery SUCK for using jumper cables. So has anyone done anything to the terminals on the battery to help make it easier to attach jumper cables? I haven't looked at them much since earlier today while helping them out, but just wondering if anyone has any ideas.
