Thread: Rust on the trunk lip

Im not sure how to describe location so ill do my best.. basically the "bottom" of the trunk lip "under the key hole area size is about 1 inch by 2 inches i dont think the rust is through yet. what would be the cheapest fix for it? thanks.

i got that same thing. You could try DIY body work.

sand and touch up paint depending on size...

in thinking about it =] im thinking like what 40 bucks to diy?

I had the same problem, spend a few dollars on sand paper going from 40-80-180-220 you can get the kind that have a sticky back and attach to a wheel for your drill ( made by 3m)
sand it with the 4 to get er down to bare metal, then feather out the edges and sand your main area progressivly finer, use a self etching primer then i like to use a sandable primer, sand it wet 400-800 to make it blend with the original paint still there. then touch up paint if you can get it.

at least that what I did... without the touchup paint, becuase they dont make it and im repainting the whole car because of rust.

with the decklid lip look on the inside too, for it to bubble like that there has to be a source, mine was rusted inside, bubble outside exact same spot you described.

look closer, you will see more.. i swear everyday i see another spot ive gotta fix.. then some asshat hit my car the other day with thier door, so now ive got a dent in my freshly sanded/primed door.. i mean i know it looks like a ghetto car right now but at least be respectful of other peoples stuff

started sanding some off tonight got the outside of the trunk lid to bare metal =] but the inside might and will be tough =[ cam is dead ill show some pics soon.

did you find your paint match BEFORE you started to sand off what is currently there protecting what is left? lol or at least bought the self etch and sandable primer?
you dont want to leave it bare metal for any long period of time, a couple hrs max

Touch up paint and sandpaper, **** lets chill and do it at the same time I gotta hit up the spot under my gas tank.

Ha I'll bring my camera and I think autozone sells ur apint we can go look for that and my gasket if you want

well we got the supercharger gasket for ya! told you advanced sold it haha. but yeah im done 60 git sanding and now i primed =]

my paint is MINT all around minus the small area on my trunk but now thats taken care of and i need to order bronzemist DARK bronzemist spray paint OEM and some clearcoat. and i think it will look good? keyword think.
