Got a call from Phantasm Motorsports here in Raleigh. I scheduled a dyno tune with them in a couple weeks but they had a spot open up today at 4 so they wanted to see if they could get me in. SO.....

I'm leaving now to put my 04 comp g on the dyno. Guesses before the results???

Oh i just put on a 2.8 today. So i'm running the setup in my sig with a 2.8 instead of a 3.0 and about 15* timing for now wide open. My initial scans this morning still show mostly less than 1* of knock at wot. A couple of 1.4* but nothing over 1.5* knock. GUESS TIME!

I'm just hoping for over 300whp. I'll post the graph asap.

I could guess your shoe size easier than your actual #. Dynojet or Mustang? My Vote ? 278 at the ground, and KR thru the roof. I hope I'm wrong.

dynojet and you were right. Knock knock city. But that apparently is the sh1tty E85 i got from a station here in town. The guys at the shop told me its the worst. They tested it before and said it was like e70ish. So i got up to like 5* of knock on even my best runs.

It was hot as balls there, so that may have played a factor too. All runs were in 3rd gear, and if you look close on the graph you can see a little trans slippage. It was noticeable when i was in the car on the runs.

The higher number on this one is with the 3.0 pulley on my tuned timing table. The lower number is with the stock timing table.

It varied. On the graph with the two runs on it, the 279 was with stock timing, so like 15*. The other run was with my timing which was i think 18* wot. Both runs knocked like at least 2-3* on the stock timing, and like 5* on the other one.

On the best runs I had the 2.8 pulley on it. With 14* timing commanded, but according to my log I saw 6* of knock on one of those. So yeah. Engine go boom soon.

The sad part is i normally see little to no knock. I've been running the 3.0 with 18* timing for like a month and the most i've been seeing is occasionally 1-2 degrees. But it's hit or miss and It's not even on the highest boost or even all the time at WOT. They really thought it was my gas today with a little trans slippage and heat mixed in. Either way i'm disappointed.

    14* is lameville.

The heat for sure played a factor, that thing wasn't happy and it shows.

Yeah that's kinda what i was aiming for. The messed up part is that they couldn't get the air fuel ratio to read right so i'm not sure if i'm running lean or rich. It kept going down to like 11.0 then it would peg at 19. The guys blamed it on possibly the E85 messing it up. Eh.

I seriously was hoping for a number close to vets. I gotta fix my tune and then i'm going to go back. I'm just going to break down and buy a wideband.

Bring a beaker with you to the pump test out the e85. Summer blends are usually 85+-3 points. But you can test out with water and ethanol and check yourself instantly.when people blame fuel like that I tend to double check their statements myself.

    sorry for double post but.....

a scan for knock obviously shut it down when it looks like that!

b buy af wideband. im retarded and pretty sure i could have saved mine from going boom on a 130mph interstate pull and eating plug #5 which im also pretty damn sure was from a sh1t tank of e85 right before i left. again wideband maybe could have prevented that. and redarded x2 since i have one in my basement that was meant for caged car.....

c why on dyno if no adjustments are being made to the tune?

d beings your in NC i doubt its sh1tty winter blend e85 and leave me to believe id have zero faith in dyno operator/shop for running the car like that..

e put bigger pulley back on asap so the poor engine can thank you!

f bet it would have made more hp and tq on 3.0 and more timing since ill bet that knock is retardimg the sh1t out of it and i made over 280 on 3.4 and pump gas not trying to be an ass....

after 1st pull why not pulley up and see what the graph looked like?

Oh we were scanning. Yeah it wasn't good. I'm gonna order an e85 test kit tomorrow and test that sh1t gas. If it's jacked up I'm knocking out some gas station dude.

I'm only posting cause finally someone else said it. Why would you run 5 more times with kr on the top end like that?!

i dont think its the gas and me personally once you run e85 dont jump to different stations find on thats good and stick with it fill up at SAME one every time unless you have to fill somewhere else.

its fvcking near june and your in NC i highly doubt its winterblend

We were trying to get it down. First 5 runs were on the 2.8, we tried to tune out some of the knock, enrichen it a bit, but then they realized their sniffer wasn't picking up the air fuel ratio right, so then we took away some timing, one run he messed it up somehow ( the run that put down 22x something), then it got two decent pulls the 297 and 296. Both knocked still so we put a 3.0 on and added some timing. Still knock, put timing back to stock, still knock.

So we were watching, and trying to tune it out. That and the experience they have had with that sh1tty gas station led them/us to believe it must be a sh1t batch of fuel, plus heat, a little trans slippage (maybe), plus bad luck?

She normally runs basically knock free. I also had it all over SC and NC this last weekend and put 800 miles of sketchy not my home station E85 in it. And drove it for about an hour and a half today right before the dyno.
It seriously was spur of the moment. They had a spot, i took it.
