neighbors built a house with no off street parking

about five years ago my neighbors built a house. the lot they built on is small, so they were limited on the size of the house. they neglected to construct any type of off street parking. they frequently park there vehicles in front of our house, especially when it snows because the snow plows plow the side with no vehicles on it. Maybe I'm not being a good neighbor, but ive lost patience because they have a bunch of different vehicles which they leave on the street all summer, and they park their vehicles in front of our house all the time. I'm trying to think of a way to prove any type of negligence, either on their part or on the citys part because of the lack of off street parking.

simply put, you dont own the street in front of your house, not much you can do about if they are parked legal.

id be pissed off too. thats lame.

in the summer they have a UTV, motorcycle, car, truck, and a camper that they leave out front. I'm pretty sure they violated city code by not erecting off street parking when they built the place

we've thought about that, but its inconvenient because we have covered parking for all our vehicles. we probably just need to be more forgiving.

Besides this nothin you can really do. Unfortunately you don't own the public road. Yea it sucks but sometimes you can let things bother you.

Does your city have any sort of law or code or something about a car being parked on a street for an extended amount of time? If so then you could report it if you want to be nasty about (assuming they actually leave them parked for a long time), maybe try to talk to them about it first hopefully they will acknowledge your complaint and stop parking there if not there isn't a whole lot you can do.

I'm strongly considering covering their vehicles with snow because im going to go snowblow my sidewalk.

48 hours. they have had warnings before.

the thing that gets to me is that the city allowed them to build, and there hasn't been any consequences about not addressing the off street parking ordinance.

Keep reporting it, once they get towed or ticketed they will get the message really fast. I'm sure the city would eventually get tired of you complaining about it and do something to you shut up lol.

be warned, thats a huge fine here for throwing snow back on the street. before or after the town plows come by.

What does the off street parking ordinance state? Unfortunately I don't think talking to the neighbor is going to do much in this case. If they parked on their side of the street I wouldn't care so much but the fact that they park on your side so their side gets plowed would drive me up a wall. I'd be on them like hawks with making sure they deal with the 48hr rule.......a few ticket and tows on that will cost $$$. Go to your public county website and they have all the information about building code and minimum requirements. I just had to look mine up locally as I want to add a 3rd bay to the garage.

some towns dont allow street parking at all when the roads are snow covered. time to check your town laws out. and be the rat you want to be lol

I'm having a friend that works in the city office check into the city code to see if there really is an ordinance to have off street parking when a new house is built. Sad thing is that I spoke with the city planner/code enforcement officer five or six months ago and he never looked into what the code was.

the only city regulation about parking on the street is that it has to be moved every 48 hours. there is a law against putting snow in the street after the plows have come by, but seeing as how their vehicles are in the street now, the plows haven't been able to plow our side.

I highly doubt there is going to be a code stating that you MUST have a garage that is off-street

I posted a picture of their place, you can see how much parking space they have. I dont care if they build a garage or not, they just need to park their sh!t somewhere else.

ok in my eyes you have 2 options 1 MOVE!!! or 2 do nothing. the law is the law, but they do need there own driveway to parkt there own cars.

if the housing market wasn't terrible and we could sell our house we probably would. we have had our house listed for sale a few different times but no luck.
