These brackets are cursed

I was redoing my oil pan gasket, and lower motor mount, and due to the failure of the previous mount my U shaped bracket was taking on more of a W shape. So I decided now would probably be the best time to do it. Yes, the bolts were a bit of a pain to get off, but it gets worse for me.

I went to put on the new bracket, and it doesn't fit. It's almost identical to the old one. The only difference is the L shaped lip on the rear side that goes around the oil filter housing doesn't clear properly, causing the holes to not line up at all. After careful examination it looks like the old bracket has the lip bent out around 90*. The new one looks to be maybe 60*.

Through a mistake with another online order, I actually ended up with another bracket. It has the same problem, so it's not a singular manufacturing error. The part number I used was 10321856.

I tried my hand at some metal work(aka bending with vise grips, and pounding with a hammer). I had some luck close to the edge, but the part that is really in the way is right at the bend. I gave up for the night out of frustration before things started being thrown, and may try again in the morning, but am not too confident.

Does anyone know if there's a different part number, or have any other suggestions?

To make sure I have this right. You got a new main U mount that holds the mount and bolts to the engine?

I've never noticed or had trouble slapping any mount laying around onto any engine. The only thing I have noticed is some motors have a bolt holding the rear knock sensor shield in place and that has to come off to put on the bracket.

I say eff that bracket and install the aluminum oil pan, pick up tube, and mount bracket. The other original type bracket is stupid. LOL

In regards to the other bracket. Where can I get it? Can you put it on without any other modifications, or does it require the other pan and pickup?

It requires the aluminum oil pan, pick up, and bracket.

Here are the pictures. The first one shows the angle of the lip. The second shows where the bend is butting up against the oil filter housing. It may look like the holes are lined up, but it's just the camera angle. It's actually off by maybe 5mm.

I have the old bracket. I was just asking what would be necessary to use the new bracket/mount stuff. I really don't have the money to do the whole thing from the sounds of it if I need all those parts. Are they all just 04+ parts?

Ohhh I'd be pulling out my grinder personally. Paint and put back on. I think the metal on the overall bracket is strong enough that a little less wouldn't hurt this area.

That's what I was thinking last night, but I would have to take it off right at the bend. Which seems a little more structural.

I really want to know what happened that the direct from GM part doesn't actually fit. Is it something with my car that's somehow different(I can't think of what it would be), or did they get sloppy on the manufacturing process? I'm used to this kind of thing with aftermarket parts, but I think this is the first time I have experienced it straight from the manufacturer.

It's a 2000 GTP. Bought used in 2002 with 30K miles. So I'm fairly certain it's the engine that the car came off the line with.

Hmmm OP, I was having a theory that maybe your oil filter adapter was different. There are a few different designs and they do change at the actual spot where they bolt to the block.

For example my Bonneville had a tab that stuck up. It was in the way when I did a mod or two and ground it off.

FTW without a doubt! I had to grind down my OEM replacement MM tabs a bit to fit. Grinding creates sparks too which is always cool

I was able to get it to fit with some bending on the bracket, and then filing the oil filter adapter housing a bit. Now I just need to figure out how to get that bolt near the knock sensor to start threading since my fingers won't really fit up there. Thanks for the help guys
