Paying what you would pay for a 2 box tunes (one now, one when you mod again) is going to run you the same if not more than used HPT with credits.

Not true. Retunes are $50 through me, plus $25 shipping, and likely $25 to return ship to me, so say $100 a retune. You'd be on your 4th retune (5th tune overall) by the time you equal the price of purchasing a new HP Tuner software, nevermind the challenge of using it.

Last I heard Overkill wasn't responding to messages.

There's one problem. It takes time to learn how to tune and if someone has never done it before it's not something you just start messing with. Input the wrong values and you just blew your engine. It takes time to learn which parts to tweak. I personally would rather pay someone else who has the knowledge to do it right the first time. Than spend weeks or even months getting a tune just right. Less time tuning means more time to beat on the car and have a good time.

Car is a whole new machine since the tune (got it today).

Just came back from east of Toronto, got a custom street tune by Will. I am amazed by the results, car has never run so great, crazy throttle response, ridiculously good mpg...just wow.

still hearing nothing but good things about will/overkill , and he is he only one that can have us 06+ guys with a correctly functioning gas gauge... so this is the route im going

Will at overkill hands down. i do my own tuning so i have not run one of his PCM's but i have tuned a bunch of GP's here in florida and recently saw his work on a 98 GTP. Im a perfectionist, and i had no complaints about how he set up this file.

The only tweaks needed were the usual MAF tune and bump to PE_RPM_vs_Time to get fueling dialed in. this is to be expected as unless he has access to live data from the car the fuel and spark changes are blind. This is the reason it is said that a custom tune will always be better then any box pcm. there are just too many variables that can throw fueling either way. a sub par injector, a gasket off center a bit, bad castings on the heads (seen this 1st hand how mis-aligned the castings can be while porting my heads)

I have seen ZZP tunes on a lightly modded car cause a lot of KR. i also feel their trany settings were dangerous on the few tunes i have seen.

For a Box tune "Get Overkilled!" and call it a day.

i feel unless you find someone who is really good a tuning. the best setup you can get is to buy a PCM from overkill and then later have the trims dialed in by a local guy. or, if will gives the option get some scans sent to him so he can make a more tailored tune. maybe with his retune options!


I digress.... to answer the original question "GET OVERKILLED!"

Overkill.

Waken up your car a little and potential gain a few MPGs. If you have any questions contact Will. He is a great guy and very knowledgeable. And don't complain if you email him and he hasn't reply to your email in 24 hours. The man is busy with other things in life, and it's worth your patience. Not saying it will take him that long, but still better tune and support than ZZP.

Isn't it supposed to be 30 seconds in between? Not 5? That's how it was on my Bonneville.

Stick with stock until you can afford a tuner.

Had 2 ZZP PCM's-made a previous 1.9 rockered/SSIC/plog/dp/3.4 GTP put down-271whp/325tq. Far from just an idle bump and increase startup fueling. Lol.
Currently running a ZZP shelf tune on my 97 TGP- IC CT kit, 11 PSI, 61mm, 1.9 rockers, cutout, 2.5" exhaust, put down 346whp-again far from an idle bump and increased startup fueling. Lol

I've also run Intense Racing and DHP shelf tunes on my car. Both were great as well.

These threads are always funny.

Looking at the files of the big companies, (zzp, intense, wbs, dhp) they are all almost identical.

i have a zzp pcm for my 3.4 set up and i dont have any problems with it... and ill also be getting there canned tune when i install my xp cam since i dont know how to tune im not going to spend 400 bucks on a tuner i have no idea how to use. i dont get why people say zzp pcms blow motors? how do you know it blew the motor and it wasnt something else

If you actually looked at the tune and knew then you would have never used the phrase "I think". Instead you would have stated what you found in the first post. This obviously implies that you are unsure and just guessing as to what was in the ****ty tune.

Man you guys are so easy to get riled up. I love this website.
