Re: Work junk, and junk... at work. By 'junk.
You readers are probably due for another shot of shiny from the archives but man I am and have been fairly busy. Patience. I did finally see the perfect condition stock TA steering wheel go on it today but no snappage.
Hey Bill... now when I say functional, on a Trans Am I mean draws engine intake air through the scoop opening. But if I were talking about a 70-2 Chevelle Super Sport WITH optional cowl induction having a functional scoop for example, it would mean that the flap actually opens when you stomp it as intended (to give the engine fresh air). This is a cool place where you might enjoy dipping a toe in the retro pond (see link). Mechanical gizmos galore on some of that muscle-era stuff. Things that work after an EMP goes off.

How about a different area of the Trans Am entirely? Working the front flares to fit the modified fenders now, snapped a couple useless pics but thought somebody might get a laugh out of the screw. I said screw it ha ha! Used a screw to hold this flare together while I glassed the backside. Another tech had done some work here and chopped it in two which I prefer not to do. But the tweaks needed were major and that was the second cut anyhow. I had done the first. Crazy, but for the most part all the guys are good enough we can toss jobs back and forth without losing ground. Fiberglass is fun until the sanding part, ugh. Bottom pic is like 2nd or 3rd round with the glass, grind to shape, repeat drill. Next I'll address the ends where they meet the air dam. Quite time consuming work.

I enjoyed working with glass... right up until the million hours of sanding.... yup.
Matt, I'm all about not worrying about an EMP.

Yea I saw the "safe shed" you're whittling away at. Very nice. How many sq ft is the concrete bunker below? Ha ha. Man I hope the GTP hubs don't give up before I can get to em... no interstate until then!
Re: Work junk, and junk... at work. By 'junk.
Holy crap I'm tired... deadline looming, setbacks trying to pop up, sanding til hand is numb again. I grow weary of this SEMA drill year after year, so much chaos and panic every time. Don't dig those aspects of the hot rod life.
Re: Work junk, and junk... at work. By 'junk.
Sounds like preplanning would help ... lol
There's 40,000lbs of rock there. no bunker ...that I can tell you about.
Re: Work junk, and junk... at work. By 'junk.
This year both mechanics had major ankle injuries, main guy on the big job quit, I had my injury, and then today the main compressor gave out at maybe 2 yrs old. Its tough to plan for that level of random potshots.
Re: Work junk, and junk... at work. By 'junk.
With your rate of car accidents...I'd think they'd be ready for your injuries...no? lol It's tough to be hit that often. Sounds like quite a bit happened and man.. that can be a rough year.

Age and treachery prevail, we'll make the show. Half the staff will be half dead but boss and TA owner will have good times in Vegas. Theres a place out there serving these monster size burgers then if you can't finish it you get spanked by a hot... little person. Ha. Anyway I'm hamburger needing rest but not as bad as others at work. There have been some mighty fire(bird)y hoops to leap through in pursuit of success. It continues-
TA flares and air dam in polyester primer. Small end is what you see most, on the car. The little lumps in the primer surface on that one edge are where I dabbed pinholes. Fitting those parts was a big hassle, man. They originally had rubber around the edge, these just fit real tight now.

I was over in the paint shop scuffing this stuff and the hood for final clearcoat today at the end. It also gets script on the fenders, all paint-

Heres the Mach1 I mostly did, at the beginning of the job. The floor stuff was the tip of the iceburg but man is that car nice now. Somebody had gone to a lot of trouble covering up rust all over the place and sold it for too much to our customer. Wheel bearings were new but so loose they were about to fall off. Somewhere theres pics of this one with a bunch of the front cut off. I patched and massaged quarters, they are still original. Got many pics of that process but you all like the shiny stuff, I know.

Re: Work junk, and junk... at work. By 'junk.
Those pics are so awesome. It must be so great to work on those peaces of art and help make them, lol. Fantastic work as always.

Perfect gif blend. Its a good work environment but sometimes it is difficult. We need a tricked out swingset up there at times. Looking back on some of this stuff, yeah the years have whizzed right by and some cool stuff has been done.
Re: Work junk, and junk... at work. By 'junk.
Heres a fuzzy (bondo dust on the Otter box) TA vid as a tease. Had to quickdraw the phone to get it. I finished cut-n-buffing the hood yesterday, so its ready but theres only one lift strut on in the vid. Front air dam and flares also not shown. I dig the sound... and its pleasurable to look at. Lotsa work in a tiny car (under 4' tall) with a Corvette heart. In 48 hrs it will be westbound in a trailer so look for it if you're in Vegas next week. All 3 or 5 of you who read this thread lol.

i was waiting for it to come back all sideways around the corner, but the vid ended, wheres part 2?
Re: Work junk, and junk... at work. By 'junk.
lol theres a gate around that corner, ain't quite two lanes wide! It prolly won't see WOT til after the show but it has been run through the gears a few times. Hell I was hoping for a blip of the gas too. Plenty of time for that later.
