No the LSC jsut used the stock 5.0 Cobra motor. There was no blower but they were pretty quick back in the day. I'd bet money if you have a PCM and CAI you'd probably take the thing...

i cant belive how much of a difference a cai makes with the gp's... i put one on the car below... well kinda, it was the filter from cai i had on my saturn, bolted to the stock intake where the box goes... and it made it pull so much harder, and made a badass sound!! plus i could easily get the trac to yell at me on dry pavement, whereas i couldnt before... and its just a stock 3.1

and +1 on that low rear, one of my friends neighbors has one, and the back is about 4 in off the ground.. the conti's do the same thing...

they have a trip switch in the trunk, that releases all the air in them... instant drop lol

Like has been said, it is a Lincoln Mark VII. There is a lot of misinformation through this thread, so I will try to help...as I own one, and know a great deal about them.

Mark VII, which you caught. It is not really built off the thunderbird/cougar platform. It is a Fox body, just like the Mustang, T-Bird, Cougar, and the one that started it all, the Fairmont. The one pictured is an LSC, but it is a Special Edition LSC, only made from 90-92.

Again, not really a "Continental" but just another Fox platform vehicle.

The Mark VII's came out in 1984 with the 140HP CFI 5.0L engine. Those ones are the lowest performers. 1987-1988 is when they all started getting the 225HP SEFI, which is the same 5.0L H.O. as the Fox Mustang. They are heavy cars, though, and even with the H.O. they run very high 15's at best, stock. You should have no problems beating it. Mine, on the other hand, you would probably not beat.

Luxury Sports Coupe. There was never a super charged version. I believe you might be confusing it with the Thunderbird Super Coupe, which had a S/C 3.8L V6.

It has air springs on all four corners, not shocks. They are rubber, and like tires do need replacement every decade and a half or so. They are a lot easier to replace then metal coil springs, and provide variable rate, load leveling, and more over metal springs. I too think that the VII is better looking then the VIII.

Put in context of the day, they did alright. They have the regular 5.0L H.O. motor, which is similar to the Cobra motor, but not the same. Stock-for-stock, I think a GTP could outrun a Mark VII...drivers being equal, of course.

The Continentals have a different system, but do have air ride. Under proper operation, the rear should sit like any other car. The switch in the trunk does not release any air. That switch only turns off the height sensors, preventing the springs from adjusting the height of the car. Even if it did release air, it would not be an "instant drop" as it takes close to a minute for the system to vent.

The Mark VII has a bit of a cult following like the GTP, just smaller. Lots of jokes run around the VII, like saying that a Mark VII is just a Mustang after its balls drop, or that it is the old-mans Mustang. "We" like them because they are more luxurious, not a "me-too" car, decent sleepers, cheap, and as easy to mod as a Mustang. There are several forums for them, just like the GTP. One of the best sites for "resource" information on the car itself would be The Lincoln Mark VII Club - Home, but there are other forums out there that are more performance oriented.

I will gladly field any other questions on the cars, too.

Not exactly the Cobra motor, but it was very close, and was what the Cobra motor was based off of. The Mark VIII block was aluminum, the cams were different, the intake was different, but it was mostly the same. They made 280HP base or 290HP with the dual exhaust of the LSC package. Stock-for-stock would be an interesting race between the Mark VIII and the GTP. A healthy, earlier model VIII would probably nose out a win.
