Fresh oil and filter, clean all the battery cable ends, clean and repair all ground cables, carb kit (your accelerator pump or whatever that carb has is gone thats why the sputter), and some Marvel Mystery Oil down the carb and in some gas to soften up crust on valves (think about it, some sat open, others closed). Plus its not warmed up yet, you gotta wait for the intake to heat up before fiddling with carb adjustments. Except choke stuff. Doesn't sound like the fast idle feature is working. Find some numbers on that carb and surf it up. The carb probably has some funk hardened in the bowls and tiny passages. Must clean.

I've got the oil change planned for next time, the grounds could use a cleaning and the batt terminals are good, I'm going to hold on the carb kit for now since I don't know how far I'm going to take it. I'm not sure if the accelerator pump works at half throttle, that's all I was giving it when revving at the end of the video. It was probably running for 2 minutes before I started the video. The high idle may be electronic since the choke is, and wasn't hooked up in the video, but is now since there was a wiring issue I had to figure out. Thanks for the info though

Well I'm sure not up on Fords, lol. But if the carb has an accelerator pump, it mostly works at just off idle and sounds just like the truck does when they go bad. I would say take the carb off and clean it but yeah that might trash the gaskets. It would bring a good bit o scrap metal cash I guess. People around here drive stuff like that!

Yeah that truck was my uncles dd until 2009 when my grandpa passed and he inherited his car. The thing got like 12 mpg at best, and a car showed up getting 30 so he parked the truck lol

It was a nice truck back in the 80's though, he'd drive up north and go camping. The back part is a camper with a gas heater, cb radio mount, carpeted, even has ac outlets inside ran by a generator that used to be on it.

    Bio, she is adorable!

Wanna know how busy I was at work today? Its almost 6pm and my phone is still at 90%, 13 hours after I took it off the charger this morning.
    That never happens.

I've been working 715-5/530 for a few weeks now. But this week has been nuts so far. We got our long awaited seedstock in today so that was fun...
Got news I'll probably be working all weekend and the holiday. Which is ok with me. I like overtime and I get a free paid holiday to make up for Monday sometime. And the GP will probably sit at work and I'll just take the truck home.

I put about 350 miles of driving on my ass today. Left the shop at 10:30, got back to town at 5:30. I've done over 500 miles on 2 days.

I drove 432 miles in one day for work for my last job. That's coming from someone who hasn't been out of the state for like 10 years before that, aka I never drive far. Then I went to Akron Ohio from here in Warren MI, and had to drive my cousin home from work and that equals 432 miles, just over 8 hours of driving. I felt weird walking after..lol. Plus my eyes hurt from staring at the road/ cars for so long. Left the shop at 7:30, came back at 4:15. I was there at the destination/eating lunch for about 30 minutes.

I ate while I drove. Didn't have time to stop. LOL

I've done some crazy long drives before. Longest I did was 12 hours in one day. That was almost 800 miles.

Yeah I couldn't do that.. Halfway back on my long trip I was getting really antsy, kept switching to odd positions while going 75 just for some change lol. And I was eating at the place I was doing the pickup.

That day was definitely rough, thankfully I had my cousin with me to keep me company. I've done a few 10 hour driving days too.

Tomorrow is looking to be a long driving day too, heading west and south this time instead of north and west and east.

I drove to Waukesha from here once in a loaner Buick Century, that was 12 or 13 hours. One year I was on Power Tour and my 400 block started leaking coolant (thrust side gone). I had driven all day both days before and had to turn back and go home from the Kentucky line in one shot. That was like 20 hours but with a couple hours of cooldown rest. Did lots of long ones during those times when gas was two-something. Five hour drives seem like a nice cruise in a newer GP though. Thats why I'm working on the GP computer chair project, lol.

i used to drive 200 miles a day easy, every day in my pick up truck for work. then in the roll off trucks 10 was a given up to 12, longest was a good 16 hours. every day was 2 to 300 miles.

pick up got a oil change every month. it was always around 3000 at the end of the month. i used to buy cases of oil and 4 filters every time i stocked up.

then there were every Mondays trips to Maryland, talk about a crap ride. nice 6 hours drive one way, in a box truck that was slow and only a 6 speed. spend the night make one more delivery in the morning and head back.

one day i was able to talk the last guy to take his delivery late in the day, i did a 180 and re did my log book and headed back home.
