I'm totally a noob when it comes to RC's. I've owned a couple in the past, but nothing fast. I would like to own one that goes at least 30mph+. And I'd like to keep it around the $50 mark. Anybody know where I can get an RC that meets these constraints? $75 is the absolute max I would spend for one of these.

And what's the cheapest gas powered RC I could get?

I bought one for $70. Reviews say it's pretty good. Goes about 30mph which is what I'd like. Might have to buy a 2000mAh battery to replace the 1100mAh battery to get a longer run time, but I don't think it's gonna fit. Apparently there are a few suspension things that break if you crash it a lot, so there are aluminum replacements. I think this is one thing I can safely mod lol.

Good about that car - Its cheep, fast for its size ~30mph, fairly durable, 4WD, metal drive shafts, aluminum shock caps, and the parts are stupid cheep for it.
Bad about that car - All the parts ship from China so expect to wait 2-3 weeks if anything should break. It's 1/18 scale so keep it off the grass. The car is not easy to control. Expect run times of about 5-6 min on the stock battery.

I do not think they make much over 1500mah in that size of battery.

I have not really done much with my 1/18 Ruckus since I got the 1/10. The 1/10 is just so much more fun to drive 1/18 gets boring fast.
You should save up some money and get a 1/10 scale rc from Tower Hobbies. You could have taken that $70 and used the Easy Pay plan to get a good rc.

So I purchased that motor from Towerhobbies on Friday, Saturday I get an email saying that my order is on hold until they can verify my information, and that I should call such and such number and ask for Kim, so I call the number and get a voice message saying that they are closed. So I guess I'll have to call them tomorrow.

I'm just getting into this hobby and this seemed like the best RC car to start with. It's fairly cheap compared the real hobby grade RC's out there, and it's fairly customizable. Everyone has to start somewhere, right?

Also, if I spend enough time with it, I will be able to control it more easily.

Do not just go buying aluminum parts for everything. Wait until something breaks then upgrade that part, but remember when you make one thing stronger something else will likely fail.

I made the mistake of buying a cheep lower end rc car and so far I have replaced the esc and motor twice, 1 rear diff, and a set of axles. That's what I was gonna do, wait until something breaks. But I'd rather just pay $70 one time for a decent, first time RC car. I don't want to end up paying $150 for that Traxxas. Traxxas's are over priced in my opinion. Basically I'm looking for something with speed.

I should have listened to Cory when he said not to get a 1/18 scale rc and that I should go with a 1/10 at least. I kick myself every single time I think back to how much of a better rc I could have gotten with my money.

I know when someone says RC's a person will instantly think of Traxxas. I just thought of way to think of this; Traxxas is like Snap-On. Pretty much the top gun, nothing else will really beat it. Then you have WLToys which is like Harbor Freight. Cheap, Chinese made, but gets the job done. I could be buying New Bright, but I'm not like that lol.

Traxxas is nowhere near Top gun lol. IIRC Traxxas was the ones to pioneer RTR rc vehicles and that is what made them what they are today, not them being the best.
