This isn't for the gp but the silverado some of you probablly know about the common problem with the cab rocker panel on the drivers side... basicly what happened is gm forgot to seal the back of that panel and it rust there. So I'm pretty sure I need to have new metal put in to fix it right... but I don't really know anything about welding in new metal for body work... so if anybody here has done stuff like this I'd appreciate some advice.

I saw on TRUCKS awile back t hat there is a new product that is used to "glue" metal patch panels into place with an adhesive. I thought it was a good idea for non structural patch panels for people without access/ability to weld.

I know this won't be much help. But my boyfriend has a '99 silverado and the all to common cancer. He took it to a body shop and just had them do it. (they were pretty cheap).
They did cut and weld new pieces in and re-coated everything.
He had it in getting new bedsides due to some body damage, so he had them take care of it all together.

Talk to Ray (redlinepontiac), he knows his stuff about body repair

    so heres a pic

one of the black lines shows the metal that I know is affected the other shows how much I plan on replacing

If I could get a shop to maybe just weld in the new stuff and let me do the rest that would be nice.

That actually looks decent to the ones around here. Your ahead of it by getting it fixed now before its to far gone. I'm sure you could find a shop to just do the metal.

    I found this

LMC Truck Parts - Page 28

and I figured out I need part 8 on there but isn't there also another panel that goes below it? or do you guys think it might all be on piece? I see the rocker panels for the other cab types but mine is a 3 door extended cab so theres no rear door on the driver side

That's your problem if you let a car sit without washing it or making sure it's waxed it'll rust in a hurry.

Yeah you need the LH cab corner to fix that and it repairs up to the trim piece

LMC cab corners are a higher quality( thicker metal and better fit).

you could have a shop weld on a patch and you do the finish work 300$+

you could buy a grinder from harbor frieght, buy the patch and buy some 3M 8115 panel bond adhesive and cut and step your patch and (Glue) it on, glue isnt a good term for that adhesive, it hold toyotas and GMs bedsides on. 200$+

or buy seal out and soak the inside of the cab corner and por15 the outside until your ready to deal with it.

theres a brace under that spot that might be slighty swiss cheesed

    hope that helps lol

edit. thats an exteded cab? it should all be one piece from LMC, if not your looking for rear rocker section also then, i dont have a LMC book near me

From what i've seen dodges are by far the worst when it comes to rust issues.

OMG Dodge is the worst by farr, i do more rust repair on dodges then any blue oval and general trucks combined.

OP. i think LMC sells the rocker sections in two pieces for your truck. standard cabs i know are one piece

i had a 97 gmc for 5 years sold it and got a 03 gmc, sold the 03 last year. not one of then had a single speck of rust any where on them. both were plow trucks too.
