[QUOTE=Trannyman95;20056]Lee of course I cooked it in my garage! Im suprised it took this long for that one to pop out lol. The trick is DO NOT EVER use a fryer in the garage with the door shut and drink!!!!!!!! If you think of it this way it is no different than using a forced air fuel powered heater such as kerosene or propane to heat a garage and most people dont have any type of ventilation and dont know the risks. QUOTE]

wow, well i fried on saturday in my garage, with my kerosene heater going...lol. i had the windaz open and the big door 1/4 open though. and whaddoya know, it took 7 beers to cook lol.

At least you had some fresh air in! My father, father in law and myself found out the hard way that its a bad idea to not have any fresh air in! We killed a bottle of Woodford Reserve whiskey chasing it with beers while in the garage for a few hours with the fryer going and as soon as we went in the house to eat within 10 minutes all three of us literally passed out near unconcious for an hour or two. None of us knew what the heck just happened so my dad looked into it the next day on the internet, mainly because he knew better than any of us passing out drinking so little lol, and it turns out that when you breathe in enough carbon monoxide it gets into your system and alcohol enters your blood stream over twice as fast hitting you hard and if you breathe enough of it and drink it will kill you . Coming out of it and breathing the fresh air in the house gives you a shock and it hits you really fast and you dont know what happened. He found all sorts of websites of people talking about the new rave of how to get trashed! I would never recommend that to anyone! New rules at my house are not an ounce of any form of alcohol near the fryer!

It will never cease to amaze me the lengths people go to in order to get high (Not speaking to you Trannyman, speaking to what your dad found). I find it all a bit strange I guess.

Ok am I going to have to post those videos where the turkey fryer caught the garage ceiling on fire? I'm sure fumes are bad too, but apparently the heat generated will cause a ceiling to combust... If you burn your house down, it would be a good time to move to the family to IL near the MO border.

most (perhaps not all) fires relating to the fryers are related to getting the hot oil where it doesnt belong--- down the side of the pot, etc. that's where the problem comes in. spils can be ignited, and that easily spreads to the oil in the pot, and WOOSH off to the ceiling.

Lol! I can say first hand what those fires look like and trust me there has never been any kind of flame other than the burner in my garage. The first turkey I fried i dumped all 5 gallons of oil in the pot and thought it would be fine..... Why else would they sell it in quantities like that right? WRONG!!!! I didnt get the bird half way in and oil was all over the place splashing and running down the side of the pot onto the burner! This WAS outside lol. I had to find a metal bowl and start scooping the hot oil out so it wasnt overfull! I was pretty pissed about the huge mess on our patio out back and that oil is a pain to clean up. The second one I did I saw a trick on tv about putting in a turkey still in the wrapper and then filling the pot with water to desired level, pull out the turkey and the level where the water was is where you fill the oil to. That method works great! On to my scary FIRE experience! It was snowing or raining pretty bad after the second round and I couldnt drain the oil out after it cooled so the pot sat outside for a while. I then learned that the small hole in the lid was letting melted snow/ water into the pot and it was bad enough to start trickling out of the pot and making a huge mess out of our patio again. I decided to try to get the water out so I could save the oil. There was a huge ice cube in the pot so i pulled that out and thought I would just heat the pot and boil the water out..... BAD IDEA!!!! If you have never mixed water and oil and let it sit then oil will alwasy sit on top of the water. I fired up the burner and get the oil heated up and let the water boil/vapor out the top. That plan didnt work so well! 4 gallons of oil sitting on top of water in a big pot is like a bomb waiting to go off when heated up! Water boils at 212 and it was like clockwork, the temp gauge was around 210 and the water was literally exploding under the oil and you could feel the impact through the ground inside the house! MARSHMELLOW TIME!!!! Because of this oil blew out the top of the pot all over the place and especially on the burner and around the outside of the pot and i had a nice 10+ foot tall oil fire less than 10 feet from my patio door Not much I could do other than jump out to shut the gas off and let it burn off and cool down, wow what a mess and a huge scare that was! After that go around there were no more fires lol. If you notice the pot I use now in my picture the top of it has a wider lip on it to keep the splashing oil in the pot, not going on the outside of it and it works just like it is supposed to. There is also a drain spout on it to drain the oil which is very nice to have!

Dave, those events are funny. Well funny now knowing nothing went wrong.

The drain spout is a nice thing. Mine didn't have one of those.
