Okay I know this is way off topic but I really need help. I replaced the fuel pump on my buddy's 01 Lincoln Town car. It started right up. I let it run for about ten mins before turning it off. Started and turned it off about 5 times. Everything seemed fine. About 20 minutes later my friend tried to fire it up and it wouldn't start. Hasn't started again since. I can hear the pump. The relay is working the safety switch is not tripped. I checked the fuel pressure at the fuel rail and I have fuel but don't know exactly how much pressure. I don't have a gauge. I don't know what it could be. Please help. He had paid me already and I feel bad his **** isn't fixed.

Check out GrandMarq.net. There are a lot of knowledgeable guys on there that can likely help you out. Since you ruled out the inertia switch and hear the pump run, have you tried cycling the key to off and back on a few times which would build up pressure and then try starting? Could be a clogged fuel filter, bad FPR, even a bad pump (what brand pump did you install?). Also check all the fuses that are related. Might just be a blown fuse. The Panther platform is usually reliable so likely it's not too big an issue. You may need to get a fuel pressure gauge on it to get accurate readings.

The pump was delphi from autozone. All the fuses in the entire car are fine. What does FPR stand for? Also what do you mean panther platform? Also autozone has a fuel system pressure tester for rent but the ****ing thing is $150, It's digital. I don't need all that. Do you have a suggestion as to where to get a cheap one?

FPR= Fuel Pressure Regulator. The "Panther Platform" is the platform that the car was built on, along with the Crown Vic and Grand Marquis. I rented a fuel pressure gauge from OReilly's last time I needed one. Don't remember the cost off hand though, but it was a mechanical gauge. Worst case find a Harbor Freight near you and just buy it. It's one of those tools that you will probably only use once in a blue moon but will save your a$$ when it's needed, especially on the newer cars.

The closest O'Reilly Auto Parts store is in Virginia and I live in Maryland. LOL. And the nearest harbor freight is 32.4 miles away

Not sure what's up with the website, but the link to the forum is http://www.grandmarq.net/vb/forum.php

I just created a thread on there with the info you have posted here so far so hopefully will hear something soon on your issue.

Got some feedback from the guys:

Looks like you have fuel. Next is spark and sensors. Make sure the crank/cam sensors are still connected, that the coolant sensor is connected and that all the coil packs and injectors are connected. The connectors on the coil packs suck.

Also, what pompted the fuel pump replacement?

Here's some additional input that may help:

Confirm the fuel pressure with a gauge. It might have enough to squirt, but not enough to actually fire the injectors. If it runs on starting fluid, its a fuel problem. It might be a bad TPS or other sensor causing it to not fire the injectors, but its something to do with the engine not getting go juice.

The crank sensors are somewhat known for being dumb on these. Its down near the bottom, kind of between the AC compressor and the crank pulley. Unplug it and plug it back in to see if it suddenly goes again.
