has anyone ever thought about making some kind of control box for the cruise control so that you can switch between 2 or 3 different speeds. on my way to work/school i have to travel a state highway and an interstate. i would like to be able to just flip a switch so that it will automatically go from one to the other.

    Hmmm, interesting thought you have.....

What I do is tap the brake, accelerate or decelerate until desired speed is reached, then I hit set.

Seems like less work then making some kind of "control box" to do the same thing.

That's what I do. Hit accel to get to the higher speed and decel to slow her back down.

I once had the idea of making a radar detector that could interface with the cruise control and/or engine computer so that when it detected a signal, it would back you down a certain preset speed, say reduce your speed by 10mph, something like that. Of course, now with a prolific as on-line access is you could probably program it to back you down to the speed limit for that area.

To hell with detection. Pop radar means by the time you know you're being radar'd you're already in trouble. We've recently drawn up plans for a working jammer.

We fix systems that do this on a much larger scale over a much wider range of requencies. Drawing up the design was easy. Radioshack has most of the parts, and we just gotta test it. Planning on options of total jam, or deception (leaving you the choice of making your speed show 10, 15, 20, etc lower than it really is).

With voice activated technology finding its way into cars, it shouldn't be too hard to make a voice activated cruise control. You could just say "set 65" and your car would accelerate to, then maintain, 65 MPH.
