The crown vics seemed nicer
Sent from the Milky Way
Crown Vics, at least at the end of their reign were specifically built for Law Enforcement purposes. They were roomy, had solid seats for getting in and out constantly, had beefy suspension that would take a curb at 30 w/out a blink, had the perfect v8 growl and it was easy to see when u drove them. These pos's they give us now have these high ass Windows u can barely see out, they sit low to the ground, they are almost all v6, BC u have to save gas and save the environment and I'm 6-5 230, I don't fit in the Damn things. Except for the charger. The part time dept. I worked for had one and that thing was a beast. Still had too many Damn buttons in it, but one of the fastest na cars I've ever driven.

Back to my car issues, I was just reading in the top swap thread that the 97 gtp's have a crappy "vacuum tree" setup and also have a vacuum controlled transmission. The engion I was looking at buying is from a 97 gtp. Should I avoid this thing or what?

i think a 01 to 03 your ok. if not the only difference will be the where the shifter cable hooks up, you;ll need to swap that part from the old tranny to the new one. if they are not the same. you can tell by looking.
A 03 trans will need a 03 computer, for the quick and best swap. 03 has minor internal changes aswell as things inside computer for controlling it.
being it comes wit the pcm, hes golden then. and the pnp switch swap it seems. heres the how to swap it over. http://www.grandprixforums.net/threa...a-transmission
And my car appears to have a brand new pnp switch too. This seems like an awesome deal with only the risk involved of a long drive to go get this thing and hope that it's all in working order. It's out of car already. I'd hate to drive so far and find something wrong and come back empty handed.

bring jumper cables and some tools. pull the plugs out, then do a compression test on the cylinders.
use the jumper cables to jump the starter, ground the black cable any where on the engine, then touch the red one to the power post of the starter. the engine will turn over.
pull a valve cover too to see how the rockers look. as well as check the oil on the dip stick, tranny too. you would like to see clean un burnt fluid. and clean golden looking rockers, the comp test you want to see like 170 in all cylinders.
I have ptsd about spun bearings now. Lol. I suppose if it had spun bearings I'd see the silver fleks in the oil, but that could be covered by a recent oil change. Do I sound paranoid? Lol
