Didn't get the car done this weekend, I worked on it and tried to get it going, but I couldn't get the AVT to log the sensor. I talked to Jeff about it and I'm going to try grounding the AVT to the chassis, but I'll wait til at least Wednesday. I do have something going on with my rear passenger wheel though. Today I started getting a clunk and a "womp womp womp womp" type howl at low speeds. Yay.
Transmission got here today, by here I mean Hollister, which is an hour away. Depending on work schedules and what not, I hope to get it tomorrow. Carnage pics will be here shortly thereafter...
The next few days should be rather interesting for you.
Went and picked up the transmission today. Packing with laughable. It was literally wrapped in seran wrap, and the torque converter was just sitting on the pallet next to the transmission. Oh well. Not much I can do about it now. I do have it mounted up on the bench, and have all the 1\2 bolts removed, but naturally the torx screws gve me problems. Snapped the end of the bit clean off, which made it fun to remove, but I got it out with compressed air and a magnet.

Lets see that chain!!!
Once I get another T40 we will, hopefully. I can confirm that the input shaft spins freely, although I do hear it hitting the chain of course. Also the output shaft spins along with the differential. That's about as deep as I got. Hoping I don't have to use too much heat to get those T40s off.
I tried that before even trying to loosen them since the 1\2 bolts were pretty snug. I was able to borrow a T40 from a Maintenance buddy at work, so I've got a much better quality bit now (Proto). IIRC, I can just put 1\2 bolts back in there so I don't have to deal with this BS again, right?
Damn near everything T40 tears my hand off when it comes loose, man. Don't know what it is about that, but in my crash man days I broke several. I've been usin Stanleys for awhile, they actually seem fairly tough. Tougher than what HF calls black ones for an impact lol. Find a wrench (8mm?) that fits the torx bit (take out of socket) and apply torque as you tap the bit directly.
From what I remember (it has been 2 years), the thread and length is the same as the other side cover bolts. I literally have a 5 gallon bucket full of my old transmission parts, so I'm sure I have some side cover bolts in there.
Found a fresh drill bit, so I said to hell with it and picked up a set of "Impact Rated" torx bits. 3 of them came out, the last twisted the bit and created a nice round hole in the bolt. That one got to meet the new drill bit, and wasn't a problem after that. 20 minutes later I had this:
So far all the frictions looks great, I haven't checked them with a feeler gauge yet, but I will. I'll be replacing them anyways, but it's a good indicator on how the rest of the trans is...mostly...
Oh, and I found this along the way:
(I have the 3rd rivet, just not in this picture)
And the broken chain pieces:
I have the diff, parking prawl, and everything under the pan still in there but I'm happy with the progress.
You will, but I think I'm done for the day. My son has a Preschool thing to go to from 12-230 or something of the sort. I might go further into it tomorrow though. More good news is that I think the gear is fine. I have a spare reluctor wheel so I compared the amount of play between a stock driven gear and this one. This one has quit a bit less, so it should be good to go...once I attach the wheel to it some other way. Not sure if I'll be able to weld it or if I'll need to have it drilled and tapped, then bolted down. I remember this happened to Bill and he tried one of those 2 then it broke again and he went the other route at it worked. I just need to look up which was which lol.
