The MR's have shorter gearing for racing/keeping it in boost. The MR's (actually all 2nd gen GTO's) have shorter gearing than the US bound 6 speed 3000GT/Stealths had. The US 3000GT 6 speed was geared to where it could do a theoretical 245 mph. The JDM GTO 6 speed was limited to "only" 190 if memory serves correct.

I hope your first gear isn't useless like mine. The one thing I liked about WRX's was the 5M gearing. 4th is where it's at for passing, though.

By first gear do you mean horribly short? All of my gears feel too short, but then again that's probably because I owned a 5 speed for the past 2 years

Yes, like it's so short that it's useless.

I like the Evo's I don't care what anybody says, I think they are still better than STi, but both vehicles are extremely nice.

I would definitely take the EVO over the STi.

No I like the stock wheels, I just want something different, something to really set it apart from the rest. Probably will be a 2013 thing. Shooting for exhaust, tint, coilovers, and jdm Rear bumper next year

I love Evos and I have a STi haha. I understand the competition but that's what makes both cars so great. If one wasn't better than the other at some point, there wouldn't have been any need to improve either one.

Also, for how similar they are to each other compared to other cars, the Evo and the STi are totally different cars. Evos are faster than STis, and can be made much faster than the STi with the same amount of money put into each one. They also handle very well on the road (where we all drive anyhow). You do trade a little bit of ride comfort (not that the STi is comfortable) for the good suspension though. Evos also tend to have problems with their stock drivetrains when abused, where a STi's drivetrain can take a beating a keep going. STis on the other hand are better off the road (where none of us drive) and a bit more comfortable to DD, but sacrifice speed and that "raw power" feeling that the Evo has. Newer STis (08+ and even some 07's) are a little too "soft" and are known to break ringlands, even on the stock tune, so some of the reliability flys out the window there.

If I had my way, I'd have both. Someday if I ever come into some money I will have an AWD Arsenal, GTR for Sunday, Golf .:R for Monday, RS4 for Tuesday, Legacy GT for Wednesday, Forester XT for Thursday, Evo for Friday and the STi for Saturday.

NO PRODUCTION CAR EVER MADE WILL BE A GOOD CANDIDATE FOR GOING OFFROAD, REGARDLESS OF HOW MANY DUMB CHILDREN THINK THAT SUBARUS ARE 'RALLY BRED'.

it goes on the street. it WILL break offroad.

that being said, i would rather drive an STI daily. if i wanted to make big power i would get an EVO. regardless, i like both cars.
