Wiki - For '94, Grand Prix goes through a mid-generation "facelift" inside and out, as well as a reshuffling of the lineup. First, LE and STE models are discontinued. The GT and GTP become option packages on the SE sedan and coupe, respectively. These option packages include the revised 3.4L V6, sport suspension, ground effects. Outside, there is a new front and rear fascia and new ground effects. Inside, a new instrument panel hosts dual airbags, much larger and easier to use controls, and seatbelts are moved to the B-pillars rather than the doors on sedans only; coupes retain the automatic seatbelt design. Under the hood, the 3.1L V6 is changed to the 3100 SFI V6 with 160 horsepower (120 kW), while the 3.4L V6 has 210 horsepower (160 kW) with either transmission. The Grand Prix Sedan also had a slight tail light revision, completely reversing the location of the brake lights and turn signals, however the coupe's tail lights remained the same.

I always like those body styles. My mom had a 89? GP with the combination locking glove box, that always got busted open. It was red and had the light gray seats I remember it having that crazy DIC like the turbo GP's had. It had the multi-port 3.1 (that I though was fast when I was 7) It ATE through headgaskets and water pumps like crazy....

I just love your car man, I nearly bought one when I got rid of my 92 LE, but the engine had 250K and the exhaust was spitting black fumes. Take good care of it. I would love to see a turbo in there or a 3800 swap

you definitely got a nice find! and yeah i saw one a while back for sale but the guy wanted like 1000 bucks for it...if your tranny does ever decide to take a dump, you could always look into having the 4t65 put in. im not sure what that would take though.

Very nice! The older GTPs are getting scarce. Nice to see one still up and running. Though we're going to have to convert that thing to charcoal gray leather interior pronto! And you also need to bring that thing down to the Wheaton, IL w-body cookout meet this Saturday!

That's the center console from a Bonneville SSE. Similar concept, but not shared with the GPs, which looked like this...





Same kind found in the TGPs. The "normal" 4-way power driver's seat buttons were on the side of the seat itself. The rest of the buttons were on the console lid. The back was not power due to being a 2-door, but the headrests, side bolsters and thighs were (yes, the edge of the seats were split down the middle, and each side moved separately). There were also 3 power air bladders for lumbar support, so total 11-way power seats.









The ones in the STE, which featured ALL the buttons on the console lid. No power headrests or side bolsters, but the back was power, unlike the 2-doors. BTW, the STE was the only car optioned with these seats and power buttons on the center console lid. Total 10-way power.

They have actually downgraded pretty significantly throughout the years. This is what the '89 & '90 LCD displays looked like:





This was standard on the TGPs, and optional on all 2-doors. It featured a compass that revolved around the car showing what direction the car was pointed in, a calendar at the top, instant MPGs, average MPGs, average MPH, range till empty and a far more extensive list of services/maintenance than what is offered today (oil/filter change, trans/filter change, air filter change, tune-up, etc). Not to mention it looked like something out of a video game. However, the LCD style display was only used for these 2 years because the glare made it hard to see in daylight.







This is the VFD style display that was optional from '90 (only in the sedans for that year) - '93. It took everything the previous version of the DIC had, and added more to it. Low fuel (fuel tank would light up), low washer fluid ( indicated on the windshield) and any light bulb that went out or door that was open would display a message at the top of the screen, as well as outline where it was on the car. Didn't have as cool of a visual effect, but looked much more cleaned up in general, and had a lot more features.

So we went from that, to the one in Fraschy's pics for '94 - '96, which took away the car outline, calendar, service scheduler and light bulb/door monitor, but added some cool things like external temp and elapsed trip time. Then for the '97 - '03 makeover, they reintroduced a smaller version of the car outline, but took away a lot of the cool features. As nice as it was to have the display back, I still consider it a downgrade considering it still didn't have the light bulb or door monitor, or service scheduler (outside of the oil change).

....what part of it were you not a fan of? Other than some of the cloth interiors getting goofy patterns, it's virtually the same thing as your car. Oh, except the '97 & up got much less comfortable and supportive seats.

If you think about it,...these cars were pretty advanced for their time...

The only way to get rid of that rust is to completely cut it out and weld in new metal..

I have looked every where for one of those. I have a 96 gp special edition and i would like to find one. any ideas???

I want the HUD. Like the 97 gp have.
