The debate over cold air intake open cone fenderwell intake could go on for pages, bottom line putting colder air into a heat pump has no benefit. You will only ever benefit from cooling the air after the blower.

K & N's numbers where in comparison to the OEM air box. My car (2004 GTP Comp-G) has the K & N setup, but it was on the car when I bought it so I have no way to vouch for any gains. I suppose it all comes down to how restrictive the OEM air intake is in comparison and how much difference in delivered air temp to the supercharger there is. So you think K & N is faking their numbers?

K&N is definitely faking their numbers.

Simply changing from a stock filter to a cotton/oil filter in the stock box is going to gain you a total of 0 hp. I used to work for a company that was a competitor to K&N. Their filters actually flowed better than K&N and still didn't pick up the numbers K&N claims theirs do.

As for the claim that a cold air intake is not ever going to gain 17 whp, that I can tell you is untrue. Is it common? Hell no, but on certain vehicles with bad stock set ups it is possible. Before I left they developed an intake for 07-current Silverados. They actually did back to back dyno tests at my friends shop on his dyno and picked up something ridiculous like 19 hp and 32 ft lb of torque at the wheels.

I saw the dyno sheets myself on that one and was absolutely amazed. There are other cars throughout the past several years that are known to have severely restrictive stock intake setups that can gain ~10 hp with a CAI set up, but for the vast majority of us, we are lucky to get 1-2 hp to the crank.

My pcm just sits there, has been for the last year and a half.

I got one from the pick a part for a couple dollars. Can't remember what years, but it's a stock tray for the S-10 PU's and or Blazers.

I do believe it was the second generation S Series.

This being one of the easiest and cheapest and usually first mods people make to this platform means there are literally hundreds of threads on this subject not only here but across the net... google is your friend here!

I like this one the best. it imitates the expensive fender well intake but costs less than half the price.

this is the intake I built when I installed an intercooler and a North Star throttle body, but it wouldn't flow enough air and was causing hesitation issues.



this is what I have on now. the filter is a genuine K&N, so it was like 40 or 50 bucks and the 4" tubing cost like 10 bucks at www.frozenboost.com I also have a 4" aluminium ring that the filter clamps onto and cost 10 bucks from www.zzperformance.com

after I shortened the intake to this style my hesitation was greatly diminished.

The funny thing is that the stock airbox on 99+ cars isn't really that restrictive, Idk at what point it becomes a restriction but for a stock car it flows more than enough air.
Those numbers from K&N are fibbed, they say the same thing for almost every vehicle they make intakes for and they all have that same little graph on the box.......
I have said it once and I will say it again cooling the air before a heat pump is redundant, you're just heating it right back up, you need to cool the air after the blower to make any difference.

Our stock intake, at least 99+ is not restrictive.
