It's only because he knows more than everyone here who has much more experience with 3800s and W-bodies than he does.

Stopping the 3800 is just like stopping the 350. It's run a very long and great course. But new stuff is here to pave a new course to more power and mpg.

I also owned a bonneville SSEi sooo before anyone calls them boring, you guys should know there was a real boost gauge in them from the start. No legos there either.
I drink..so consider that when reading my posts.

im not saying that i know more then you guys, its just that i have been around my fair share of 3800's and i like them allot. i also have a 1996 bonneville SE with a L36. its an old but nice, solid, comfortable, reliable car; i cant say too much bad about it. it makes a great family car for cheap. the newer stuff is all fine but i dont think i would ever want to work on it. how difficult is it to add a real boost gauge to my GTP, i guess i would have to buy a gauge pod as well. it would have been nice if GM would have put more gauges in these cars, an like oil pressure gauge. even my bonneville SE has more gauges, heck even my cavalier RS convertible has an oil pressure gauge. why did they not have an oil pressure gauge in the grand prix is beyond me.

as i said i dont know more then you guys and i never said that, but i prefer the 3800 to most other engines; i am not alone either. allot of people like these engines. when i had my other GTP that was rotted out i even had thoughts of putting that 3800 L67 in my cavalier but that would be a real pain to make it fit. it would have made for one little rocket, i would probably eat those 14" tires up pretty quickly.

by the way i was aware that the 3.8 started life as a buick engine. i just dont care for the majority of buick's styling. a new GNX however would be interesting, i just dont know it would be the same without the 3.8.

So what are we even debating here? You bought a mint 3800 and want to argue about why it won't be a collector's item? 3800 is a great engine but I think there was a lot of industry pressure to get competitive technologies into a new platform. People buying new cars seem to want more HP and MPGs - provide that or lose more sales to competitors who are introducing new technology.

Many people will never look under their hood and only see 300hp/28mpgs vs 200hp/25mpgs and that is all they need to see (and a nice sales pitch from the dealership).

    This thread is amusing btw

People don't buy cars for horsepower numbers.

They buy cars so other people will respect them.

I dont think this guy is mouthy but needs more info about GP's . Yes we do have members here that are knowledgeable but there is also the ones that like to bring "down the hammer" when it comes to GP's. I personally love my GP , yes its a 97 the year everyone else hates. Personally its a matter of personal opinion about who likes what. Being a GP forum its funny to see the same member's bashing the GP , I personally would had loved to see the Pontiac brand live on but **** happens.

plymouth? lol. that brand had some great cars in the 1960's but not much worth mentioning since. what the neon? voyager? acclaim? breeze? prowler? . that brand's products were true brand engineering. at least GM tried to make their brands look different. the regal didnt look like a GP for example, even though under the body panels they were basically the same car. the Bonneville doesnt look like a lesabre either. chrysler didnt even try to do anything useful with the brand. i think oldsmobile had more love from the general public. Plymouth deserved its fate, pontiac did not. i see Bonnevilles, grand ams, and grand prixs everywhere. these cars were well liked, i like them myself. it was GM's "excitement" brand, their performance brand. the cars had a soul, character if you will.

As someone who isn't a fan of the Diamler Chrysler brands... I would have liked to have seen another gen of the Prowler with an SRT8.
