Welcome.. before you get mad at GM for axing Pontiac, you may want to give Bland Buick it's motor back . The 3.8L motor is a Buick motor, and Bland Buick put it in a Regal a year or two before the Giant Pile ever saw it . Which BTW has a better boost gauge (digital not lego block), dual heated seats (unlike the 97-03 option for driver only), in many cases a strut tower bar to help with handling (odd your sports car didn't have one even optional), and a much better/comfier set of seats (than the rocklike, back killin GP seats).

In closing..let's all appreciate what we have/had and enjoy the fun

Especially considering that this is a "family car". This is not a sports car, it's a kid hauler. This car was basically designed for mid 30's people that wanted something that would move a bit, but still comfortably get the kids to and from soccer practice. Were there more powerful/better handling cars? Of course - there always are. But, in those cars you're sacrificing leg room and trunk space. I've driven my wife and three kids to and from Chicago (about a 6 hour drive) in my GP with no complaints from anyone because they were comfortable. I think if I tried to do the same thing in a Cobalt SS, the outcome would not have been as positive.

first of all, what's a goo pile?? im not here to hate on buick, buicks arent bad cars but i never really cared much for their styling over the years. compare the bonneville to the lesabre, the lesabre is equally as good of a car, they share the same drivetrain, but the bonneville just looked sporteir. the bonneville was "luxury with attitude" the lesabre was just there, it was grandma's car. the lesabre had no equal to the SSEi, it was never offered with an L67. i was pissed off when they discontinued the bonneville, the car had almost as long of a history as the corvette. longer then the mustang, longer then the camaro. the regal was a better looking car and while i wouldnt mind having a regal i just think the GTP looked more like a sports car. if you go back in history the regal t-types and grand nationals were king but that was years ago.

yes, i also know that the 3.8/3800 was a buick design originally, did that make it a buick division engine? the pontiac division had no shortage of great performance engines back in the muscle car era. pontiac had a long, long colorful history filled with mostly successful products that had plenty of character, building mostly cars that were fun to drive. they had some failures but quite a few of their products were just fun to drive. buick had the GN, the gsx, and the grand sport but not much else.

Did someone honestly compare a Grand Prix to a Dodge Neon? Who cares if it had a better power to weight ratio than the GP, it was still a Dodge Neon, and I know I Have said this many many times before, but Chrysler has not made even a decent car since the early to mid 70s, that being said comparing a Grand Prix to a Neon is like comparing an Apple to a Prune.

So you're ok with a Grand Prix being compared to a Grand National, but an Srt-4 is off limits?

Your views on the subject at hand seem very skewed, or you didn't read but bits and pieces of this thread.

I didn't really read much of what the original poster had to say after his first post, because most of it was just rubbish anyway. People need to stop comparing the wbodys to cars that aren't even in the same class, why dont we just start comparing the Corvette to the Cruze, or the Mustang to the Fiesta while we are at it...... When these cars came out they were competing with the Ford Taurus, Honda Accord, Toyota Camry and such.

why did GM discontinue the 3800 anyways. one of the most reliable (minus crappy intakes and dexcool issues), most durable, and most adaptable engines in GM's history. the engine had its early problems in the 1970's and early 80's but by the time the series I came out the bugs were worked out, and they had the best v6 in their history. from the grocery getter L36 to the L67 performance engine to the drag strips with engines putting out over 500 hp reliably on 6 cylinders, this engine was nothing short of amazing. i find it very hard to believe GM could not continue to adapt the design to meet future needs and standards like they had done with this engine so many times in the past. its one of the best engines to come out of the 20th century.
