So what are we even debating here? You bought a mint 3800 and want to argue about why it won't be a collector's item? 3800 is a great engine but I think there was a lot of industry pressure to get competitive technologies into a new platform. People buying new cars seem to want more HP and MPGs - provide that or lose more sales to competitors who are introducing new technology.
Many people will never look under their hood and only see 300hp/28mpgs vs 200hp/25mpgs and that is all they need to see (and a nice sales pitch from the dealership).
