No posting forsale until you magically get the classifieds section unlocked? Ok

First off, I get it, you don't want every Tom, Dick and Harry posting their add on a whim for a desperate quick sale. This is NOT cars.com. However, for a normal dude with a legit car, this makes little sense. There is a classified section on a Grand Prix forum. If anything should be unlocked immediately to increase exposure to YOUR members why wouldn't this be the FIRST place to be unlocked? The people who are "members" should be able to ascertain whether or not the deal, car and individual are representing. If not, you.....dont reply...smell a rat...you dont exchange information....let it scroll to the next page...turn off his/her abilities (all can be controlled by site admin).

You can justify this however you want, in the end you limiting the possibility of YOUR members being exposed to possible great deals. Are you going to have a scammer or 2? Probably, but you are also locking out people who are smart enough to go to the enthusiast site, create an account, look around and put the very cars the members devote their lives to...right in front of a dedicated site.

Planet Nautique, Snowest, Dootalk, Diesel stop etc etc do none of this. This site is informative, has lots of knowledgeable people but seriously. Its been a week or so and still cant post a classified? There are watchdogs everywhere, if you got bad post/member abusing, misrepresenting you simply switch off privileges.

After searching "trade" in FAQ and spending a few minutes looking there was nothing indicating this was rule breaking. Looked here and there but come on, how deep are you supposed to dig to find out what's kosher on an internet site for cars. I apologize for trying to fish for a trade in general discussion. Where is it to go? I am not desperate. I am not trying dup or sucker anyone.

Furthermore, I plan to possibly sell the family car, I am not interested in low-ball idiots that can come with cars.com/craigslist. My thought process was exactly this: I wont have to explain the engine/options/ because people will have at least a base knowledge. I am not interested in modding, fixing or whatever no offense. I have 3 little kids so my time is not spent on pleasure reading at this point in my life. I dont see in the rules where you have to post x amount to be a member, drink the kool aid before you can post a classified, background check must be passed. But is does say "one day" it will just appear and voila you can post.

I live and work in the Middle East (Saudi Arabia). Many things are 3rd world and backwards here...laughable, frustrating and make NO sense. In order to get your license you have get your blood drawn (need your type in case of accident?), you need a lawyer (if you want to get anywhere), sometimes you have to take a written test, some times you have to take an eye test and some times if you are really unlucky you might actually have to take a road test (maybe in the small parking lot or out in traffic with 10 million other males). This past year I only had to submit paperwork and take an eye test. The gentleman could not have been happier and more disinterested in his job and with big smile and thick Arab accent says "Sar (sir) pick a numbar (number)." I look into the DMV style scope and see the typical rows of letters going from small to the absolutely obnoxious giant E. So of course I look up not trying to be a smart a$$ and I am like, "I don't know, E?" With out missing a beat "wookay, you pass!" All smiling he signed my paperwork and on I went. I just can't help to think this "rule" is makes about as much sense.

I dont know what the standard is to which we set the rules here, I love a clean, well-managed site as much as anyone but this seems pretty JV IMHO.

There's more to the posting requirements than just a means to do a "background check", so to speak. I would imagine people who run and pay for a site don't want everyone who wants to sell a car, but has never contributed to their site, to sign up just (or mostly) for that purpose. You're basically using the site for free advertising/exposure for yourself without giving back to the site or community. I would hope you can see why that might be frowned upon.

Oh, BTW, if you think people on craigslist are "cheap", wait till you see the offers you'll get here. The fact that people in a car specific community know that car pretty well can sometimes backfire on you because it also means they know when you're asking too much.

Yo dog, some pro tips on the post count:

    1. That was a lot of typing to be rewarded with only a single post. Spread the love around a bit and you'll get more of what you want.
    2. Maybe start an argument about something like... I dunno, oil filters or spark plugs. Tell us you're a diehard Champion fan or something and pretend to be surprised when we explain that there's better stuff. These cats eat picky, pedantic, blatantly ignorant stuff right up. You'll have a hundred posts under your belt within the hour.
    3. Post silly pictures, music videos, thoughts, complaints, or any other keyboard vomit in the designated and established off-topic threads. Seriously, there's no quality control - they even let me post.
    4. Don't complain that we want to snuggle if you're just here to screw. We all know how this works, so make with the pillow talk. We're gonna fall asleep in like five minutes anyway, so just wait a hot second and tell us we're pretty before you sneak out.
Irridium spark plugs last 100k mi and work just as well as copper. Copper is a waste on N/A and only lasts 15k mi. Don't use Platinum.
Use 195* tstat unless you can thoroughly explain why not; 99.9% don't need a lower temp.
Almost any oil filter, ever, is of higher quality than ACDelco. Spend $6+.

Good Points. Rules, you have to have them. Community for sure. Sorry but the "rules" are miles long and everywhere. When I went to seek the rules, I searched "trade, trading" etc. I can read "sorry" This is a virtual world, not reality. So you have to run around post some "atta boy" and "nice work" posts on different threads to get status. I did find some areas to post on. Again from my perspective, I am not one to jump in and give disingenuous posts. I sooner contribute meaningfully when and where appropriate. Free exposure? Craigslist is free, many sites are free, there are work arounds for everything.
From the perspective of someone looking from the outside in, I am simply suggesting it might not be a big deal to revisit the classified policy to open up the door a little in order to get exposure both ways. Most people looking to sell become transparent with little correspondence. And one were not to post everywhere if they had no meaningful thoughts to contribute who would it hurt?
Oh, BTW, if you think people on craigslist are "cheap", wait till you see the offers you'll get here. The fact that people in a car specific community know that car pretty well can sometimes backfire on you because it also means they know when you're asking too much.
Right on, but wise buyers usually can see the advantage of buying a clean grandpa drive versus one that is "slightly modded" half wired pieced together stereo with whored out seats and trim. I dont mind a good haggling, I buy and sell on CL all the time. If you know what you want, have the cash ready someone is always MUST selling. It is GREAT way to kill time. If fact when I am not trying to break rules and sell a certain car, I was looking for trucks and came upon this thread and it immediately made me think of good ole northern Wisconsin. I like the first few lines, "dropping the plow because the brakes were shot" was classic. Great, now I am derailing OP.

Seriously, this is probably one I should have just "played the game" but this site IS cool. If I ever had or needed to trouble shoot this is where I would have come. But I (and my wife) have owned 4 Ponitiacs over the years and even though the logical side of my brain says you dont buy a car from a manufacturer that is out business...we have had exceptional luck with Pontiac-

Now you're getting the hang of things. If you're here to ask questions, we love questions. Want to recommend your favorite floor mats? Nifty. Have a favorite parts place to recommend? We love parts. Their feel, the weight of them, the smell when you open a cobbled-together box/newspaper/Puffed Rice/duct tape/dirty oil abomination they shipped in...

    "snuggle before you screw"
    I love it.
    Thanks for the tips
Again, I know what you guys are saying. I have been there and done that. If we were talking Ski-Doo, Burton Snowboards, Traveling, Boats...I could offer more useful banter.
Truth is I have 1 year old twins and a 4 year old so it is hard to "spread the love." I spend more time spreading diaper cream at the moment. I do love my car. I am not a minivan kind of guy. When I did drive something other than my truck, it was great to have a 4 door with some serious factory balls. Still have it, may just keep it. Just thought, if there was a internet spot full of people who know what they want...I might be able to help a brother out.
    nautique 210.jpg

I recently sealed the deal on this from White Lake Marine in NC. My supercharged 3800 has HP but lacks the torque and payload for this. So I am in a quandary, keep her and buy a truck for 5 or buy a POS truck to tow to the lake. Pay license, insure etc on 2 vehicles for 2 months in the summer or go down to 1 vehicle? Common sense says you go to 1 vehicle but I do like my toys.
    That's where I am at.

Here is my heavily modded living room. Turns out I bored and stroked mama on a test drive and ended up with twin turbos, should of went blown but you cant beat the reliability of a supercharger...can you them? My turbo's favorite lube in aquaphor bottom right, they run best on high octane iced animal crackers. Notice all the bling bling, Dora and Handy Manny will hook you up!

    living room.jpg

Laugh it up...I was single, 25 with a Mustang GT, Sled, race-sled, 4-wheeler, dirt bike, jet-ski, mastercraft to once...with time to go and no one who cared when I got home.
It was a sad day to sell everything but the gator and GP, but now my fingers are crossed the kids will enjoy watersports as much as the old man. I am headed back to the old days though...$3000 truck towing a $30,000 boat.

Nothing wrong with that. I drive a $1400 Regal and just bought $5K worth of mower/snowblower...lol

There were issues with newbs and too much unprotected screwing. We aren't Cumo or Bloomberg, but the site owner did toss a few post count requirement in ....to get a dinner and cop a feel before going straight to the main event.

If I do end up buying a tow vehicle, it's likely the tower speaker set-up will be worth more than the truck towing it. Priorities
