Elbow $26, to get into the fenderwell

I use Frozenboost for my couplers because their easier to sort but all the cheap ones are really similar, you can find them on CXracing, Ebay, Frozenboost where ever. Measure the throttle body coupler diameter. Its somewhere around 3.75" or 3.5" im not sure. Mine is a Northstar TB

If you find the CXracing pieces on ebay you can get them for the same prices as their website but with free shipping. Doing fenderwell style does take some ability though as you have to cut a sheetmetal brace out of the inside corner of the fender. The same as using a store bought FWI. There is a few different combinations you could put together using these kind of parts though. If you dont want to go with the full fenderwell like mine. You could just do a regular underhood intake like what everyone talks about doing with PVC.

Buy this 4" 45* bend and the TB to pipe coupler $42. If it comes out too long just trim an end off, you wont need the beadrolled end its not holding pressure

Except for it is completely protected by the fender liner and bumper cover. I did this last spring and the filter still looks like brand new.

You can use any 4" inlet filter you find. A lot of people swear by the AEM dryflo. You can buy the $15 filters from AutoZone or eBay too if you trust them. I do not.

I was gonna say, it's completely sealed in.

Now if the OP didn't have a fender liner or a fog/head light, then that'd be a different story.

Looks just like the JMB FWI, but for a third of the price. Good looking out for people that want the "cold air" and not the open cone.

I've also used Spectre filters from Autozone since they started carrying them years back. Never had an issue and you honestly can't beat the price.

If you want you can also use a cheap roof baffle from home depot to seal the area where it goes inside of the fender. I have a similar setup, but yours looks a lot cleaner, nice job!

Anthony, I've had my FWI on my 05 for two years now, the filter is just starting to get a little dirty, and I drive through deep puddles and on dirt roads every week. If you're really concerned, use a little weather stripping to better seal the fender.

Yea, I just posted this up because looks good, it works well for me and a lot of people ask for the links whenever I post a pic of it in their "CAI" threads. Just a reminder that there is many options other than paying $300 for a vendor intake or making one out of toilet piping.


Obviously I dont know how well these pieces will line up with other peoples setups. If you dont have a IC or N*/LQ4 MAF you might need different length couplers or a little bit of a different bend. Whatever it is, these are cheap, good looking, universal pieces and they have anything you could need listed in their 4" alum. pipe section. A little ingenuity and you can do up a really professional looking setup for cheap.

Just finished installing this setup on a stock L67 using the exact parts listed. Overall fit was pretty good. Total cost ended up being just under $170. I would only add a couple of things that I learned in the process:

For the engine compartment to fender well "pass through," I made a cardboard template and transferred that to a scrap piece of lexan. $0 from the local hardware store. They said scrap was free. Bonus!

The OD on the IAT sensor is 1/2". I decided to drill through the $13 silicone couple rather than the $35 aluminum pipe. Using a 7/16" spade bit gave the perfect fit. Put a small scrap of wood on the back side when drilling and that will prevent tear out. Also, no need to extend the sensor plug wires doing it this way.

I cut the inner fender support bracket right at the bend. because of that, the filter listed is the absolute biggest that will fit. It touches both sides. I might cut a little more off the support bracket, or go with a slightly smaller filter.

Overall, I'm really happy with how it turned out. Makes a big difference in the heat of a desert summer.

Glad to hear it worked out for you. It is a little more labor intensive than sticking a filter on the end of the TB or on a 45*, but it has a nice look to it. I totally forgot about IAT sensors, my car had a LQ4 MAF with built in IAT so I didnt have to worry about it. Like I said though, different setups might need slightly different couplers and other small pieces. Mostly just wanted to get the links for the 4" S-pipe and 4" 90 posted up. Im a little surprised yours came in that expensive, did the prices on the CX Racing parts go up?

I think shipping pushed it up a little. I looked on Ebay for the CXRacing stuff. They did offer free shipping... But they just added $8 to each part. I got it direct from them. I also used T-bolt clamps for everything. I suppose you could save a couple dollars using hose clamps, but that's not my style. Granted, this is only slightly cheaper than some vendor FWI's, but you got a bigger filter, and the satisfaction of putting it together yourself.
