take the belt off, take the 2 lines off the bottom, one threads in the other has a hose and clamp. the p/s pump pulley has a hole in it, you stick a socket thought the hole to get to the 2 bolts, one is at the 12 o'clock and the other is at 6.

remove the alt for some more room and viability.

remove the dog bones pull the engine forward and it should come up and out, if not it can also be pulled out through the wheel well.

your new pump should come with a pulley puller to remover your pulley, then you need to put it back on the new pump. ( same puller puts it back on) dont try to remove the pulley till after the pump is off, theres just not enough room to get it done.

Yeah I did it the hard way, I removed the pulley while the pump was still in the car. How? Pry bar. Gentle pressure, twist pulley, repeat. After I got that off I noticed the holes in the pulley to remove the bolts. Fuuuuu............ I'm an idiot.

Question, anyone have a diagram of where the power steering lines run? I'm replacing pump and lines since the car is 13 years old and is leaking p.s. fluid everywhere.

I need to do this on my newly acquired gtp, will probably tackle it in a couple weeks (being paid every other week is a huge PITA, but I will need to have it done to pass inspection). Steering the car sucks with a bad pump but Ill manage until then. A couple people told me its a pain to do and you absolutely HAVE to remove the dogbones and tilt the engine. I really dont want to do that, the less I have to remove the better. Is it possible to do it without doing that? The link in the OP is broken.

just so you know if your pump is dead, like it was whining, then quit working, if you drive the car, your killing the rack and pinion, and you'll be looking for a rack next.

and then theres also the off chance the rack is dead and not the pump.

Well, my buddy who I got the car from, drove it with a bad pump for a few months. Now I have to for a couple weeks. Im fairly certain its the pump not the rack, because the pump makes a slight whining noise when I turn. But if Im at a stop and try to turn the wheel, I basically cant unless I give it some gas. Driving down the road its fine, unless its REALLY slow. He said he put fluid in the pump, and it would get low but there was no leak anywhere, so where would the fluid go. He lives and works in town so it wasnt an issue for him (5min drive to and from work for him at most) and I work 15mins away from home. I deff do not want to kill the rack, but it seems like the pump works when I give it gas, so thats what I do when I need to turn. If anyone here thinks its not the pump please chime in!

if you cant see the leak by the pump check the rack for leaks, it has to be going somewhere.

if the rack is leaking, you need a new rack. there should be drops on the ground under your car.

No leaks whatsoever. I honestly think maybe he just topped off the fluid once. Pump don't leak. Rack don't leak. And I have no drips underneath the car. I think the pump is just bad. Its only a 40-60$ part so I'll replace it. If that doesn't fix it then its the rack and I might be in trouble.
