Well I'm going to make a CAI here soon BUT since I work at pepboys and get a discount and I also work for the county (means I get aluminum free)
I need one more 4" mounting plate, one more 4" collar with boot, a sheet of aluminum (probably from a street sign) and a 4" k&n filter or Spectre filter
a little bit of free time (I work two jobs) and I will have a polished CAI with pics to show you all

OH also going to either cut the mounting bracket for the computer or get a tray for it not sure yet HELL I might even make one out of aluminum if I got enough time

well if the shop at my county job had a welder I would probably spend a couple extra hours a night there

BUT there is a new position for the county I just applied for it would mean driving an extra 10 mins (big whoop) the pay is the same the bright side of this deal is....bigger shop....MORE tools welders, metal brakes, and the machine for making mandrel bends

I hope I get the job the pay is the same but ^^^^^ can you say custom exhausts.....

then I might be able to make a little extra money selling exhaust systems

I would recommend putting it back in. It smooths out the air so that it reads an accurate reading. No REAL gains are seen from having it removed.

The engine doesn't sound any louder, unless you got a gtp but the filter makes a louder suction sound

right, maybe not so much louder, but i might say "throatier"... if that's a word. after this mod, my GT sounds about the same at idle, maybe just a little bit deeper. but when i step on it, she kinda roars now, i can definitely feel the extra horsepower & the throttle feels much more responsive.

    your INTAKE LEAKS.

If what you're hearing is the initial sucking noise from the TB opening and the engine sucking in the air, thats normal.

If you're at part throttle and it sounds like that, its leaking.

OK got everything BUT the filter which I will pick up on payday payday is Thursday from one job and Friday from the other job

then all I nee is a little free time to make the CAI box and mount it in the car(after I polish it)

here is a picture of the parts minus the filter

not sure if I'm going to use pop rivets or screws to hold the box together

I will be taking pictures during the build once I have everything ready.

and if nobody minds I will add it to the how-to section and title it CAI the prudy way or something like that

? huh? I dont see how it is anything like nawarkk's design.
I'm using a 4" polished aluminum tube and I needed to double my amount of aluminum for the CAI box now going to use 2 signs and the PCM will be mounted inside the CAI box. The bottom of the box will be mounted and the top with be removable for access to the filter for cleaning

I do like nawarkk's design simple and to the point, but I like making things a little more difficult its not fun unless its difficult

yo, just did my intake this morning and when i got home tonight my cone filter was pushed up against the siding of the engine bay...it is like sandwhiched between the piepe and the side,......... does this pose a problem? should it be suspended?
'01 gpgt, tinted tails, k&n custom intake, lime green engine bay, straight pipe exhaust, gold/black interior. dirrrrrtydir

EVERYONE WHO HAS DONE THIS MOD READ THIS
every once in a while you should pop the hood and make sure your intake is intact, i opened my hood the other day and my filter was about to fall off, the hose clamp had become loose. im sure most of you made this like nawarkk did with pvc, and the homedepot clamps, and i dont think this stuff is engine rated, it may become loose over time.

I used a 3" coupler from siliconeintakes.com and I don't have any issues with the cone sagging or falling off. I did this a while ago, can't remember. Funny how I stumbled across the same cone as the author

I have an 04+. The coupler is short enough that it becomes very rigid once it's forced on between the MAF and TB. I used the Spectre adapter ring deal on the actual MAF. For the sensor I just drilled a smaller hole than the sensor itself and let the silicone fold around it once it was shoved in. No leaks. Anyways, very sturdy and no issues on my part. Hope that helps other 04+

Here's an image of my first iteration while I was waiting for the mail to bring the coupler...it had the saggy/falling off issue after just a week
