It started out as trying to change the evap core in my son's car (05 Grand Prix GT) that ending futile. So we put the dash all back together and not I get the VATS triggered and can't get the car started. All connectors and grounds were proper. Only thing that is slightly off is the plastic guard on the ignition switch that the key goes into cracked off. None of the insides were effected. It's that ring that holds the face plate on.

I've tried disconnecting the battery and checked all fuses and it is the original key to the car.

    Suggestions?

Also I have access to HP Tuners, if I disable the VAT codes will it let the car start?

Did you let the key stay in the ignition for like 10 minutes, then shut it off and try it again for 10min, then try to start it?

I forget the exact way to do a security relearn.

try to crank it leave key to run for 10 minutes, then off for 10 seconds, try to crank it leave it at run for 10 minutes, off for 10 seconds, then try to start it, then to run for 10 minutes. then off for 10 seconds and try to fire it up. ( you need three 10 minute cycles)

while doing this shut everything off, roll the window down and do all the key turning form out side the car, or you are stuck in the car, you dont want to even open a door while doing this, if your battery is poor, put a charger on it, the key will be to run for 30 minutes. if it dies it maybe a do over.

Did this ^^ and still no luck.

I used a code reader and nothing?

Will using HPTuners to wipe the VATS codes/reporting work?

I copied the below from the HP Tuners forum. I have followed the same guide to disable the VATS in my 04 LS, should work for you also:

To disable VATS you must do the following:

    1. Set the VATS value to "PWM"
    2. Set DTC P1626 to "3 - No Error Reported"
    3. Set DTC P1629 to "3 - No Error Reported"

Additionally you might need to set
    4. Set DTC P1630 to "3 - No Error Reported"
    5. Set DTC P1631 to "3 - No Error Reported"

    ^^

    Thanks.

I plan on looking one more time under the dash to see if I missed something.
