ive seen a couple aftermarket "fail safe" T stats stick open on cars. replace it
i also have half my radiator covered in cardboard with a hole in the middle (for mechanics wire to remove in spring)
First you could try opening the brass bleeder screw on top of the thermostat housing (once the car is to normal operating temperature) until a steady stream of fluid is coming out. I once had a slight leak in my coolant system that caused air to enter the system and the heat to blow only lukewarm air. One indicator of air in the coolant system is sloshing or watery sounds from behind the dash.
If that doesn't work you can proceed with thermostat and coolant/heater core flush. Instructionals on both of those can be found on this site. Good Luck!
you can always touch both heater core hoses, if both are hot, you should have heat. if one is warm, the other cold, the core is air bound.
back to step one, flush the core.
you cant bleed air from the core via the t stat bleeder. it just dont work like that.
ok just put new thermostat in still no heat going to try what socker said sometimes in the morning that what it sounds like is water behind the dash

break out the garden hose, take both heater hoses off the alt bracket, then turn the hose on, and put it end to end with one of the heater hoses, flush till clear water comes out the other hose. put the hoses back on and enjoy the heat.
I forgot to add that the upper radiator hose had a hole in it last week could air have gotten into the system
Yes.
Wish I could work on my car right now but at work![]()
Seen Scottydoggs post this in another thread this is how you backflush??
remove the t stat, put the t stat housing back on, take the upper hose off the radiator, then push it down to the ground to a bucket or let it fly.
get your garden hose out, put it in the rad turn it on, then fire up the car, let it run till clear water pumps out the top hose.*
then turn the hose off, run the car till no more water comes out the upper hose. then turn it off.
put your t stat back in, with new gasket, the upper hose back on.*
now take 1 gallon of full strength green antifreeze, not the 50/50 crap. ( parts store cheap green is fine to use) dump the whole gallon in the radiator, fire up the car, fill the rad with hose water till its full. top as needed till its ready to be bled of air. it will burp and take coolant as the water in the block warms up the t stat opens up for a few seconds till cold coolant hits it and it shuts again.
now to bleed the air out, let it idle rad cap off till the fans turn on, (when the fans are on the temp is over 195 deg, the t stat is wide open) then open the bleeder screw on top the t stat housing a few turns till a steady stream of coolant comes out the hole, shut the screw, top off the rad. cap it.
all good just went to the place I go for my oil changes got a rad flush the heat is back on now![]()
just my luck tonight the heater hoses where the little elbow is starting leaking just make it home now my question is how hard are they to replace ?
