Actually... The ones with locating pins are for the later blocks.
The early blocks didn't have the locating pins.
You shouldn't use a 1/2 torque wrench for 15 lb-ft either. You should be using a 3/8" lb-in wrench. They're most accurate in the middle of their range.
if you look at the bolts for the valve covers they have a flat stop at the end of the threads, just make them tight do not ape those bolts or they snap off easy.
edit: clean the valve cover reall good, and the top of the head where the gasket meets the head. brake cleaner and a rag once again. razor to scrape off any rtv or other gunk that others may have put there.
Front VC removed. Does it need cleaned like scraped before replacing the gasket. I would assume so but wasnt sure cuz the gasket sits up in the cover

Yeah you want to get as much crap off surface as you can.

Isnt it bad if stuff falls down in though?

I used a clean rag and scrubed with brake clean sprayed on the rag so bits wouldn't fall in. No idea if it harms anything or not having stuff fall in or not I didn't want any too.

if anything falls in just pick it out, small stuff you cant see wont kill it.
Im really hoping the LIM doesnt leak on the corners. The gaskets didnt fit super smoothly but I covered the corners with black RTV.

how did they not fit smoothly?
as long as the rtv squeezed out when you made the bolts tights its good to go.
Like the "cross bar gasket" whatever its called and the actual lim gaskets kinds of ran into each other at the corners like they just didnt slide in and fit perfectly. It should be fine.

and the lim wont fit right to the bottom on its own, you need to turn the bolts in with a X pattern a few times, snugging them up each time. took like 3 rounds of snugging iirc for mine to sit flat to the bottom. then i torqued them.
I will try and snap a pic of the corners here in a sec
