okay I have a 1997 grand prix gtp and i was away working for 3 weeks when i got back i started my car and noticed the DIC was reset when i started driving down the road the DIC kept saying door open and chimming then it flashed on and off and when i tried to turn the radio on it when blank and the dic went blank also, in the next few days it has come back on and off couple of times when it did i noticed if i hit the dash near the dic it would come on and go off now heres the real weird thing...when the dic and radio is blank wont come on it makes the abs light come on in the dash it does not come on when the dic lit up the 2 times since this happened it only comes on when the dic goes blank and when this happens ,and driving the brakes got real hot and and it was like the abs was getting stuck on it has happened and gone away but it drags....now what the hell is going on, i heard grounding issues cause dic and radio not to ground out but why the abs light on and abs trying to engage im getting stumped the fuses to everything is good checked them all...now i heard the ignition does weird things if it goes bad, this has been replace about 8 months ago before i bought the car...is there a module or something that is going haywire...p-lease anyone got any ideas im at a loss...THank YOU

Check battery, battery connections and then grounds, when started check alt output too, make sure all is good. Then you might have to actually apart checking things under the dash. If the ignition was worked on 8 months ago, what was done then?

anyways, electrical issues can be the hardest to conquer in a car...

mine did something similar but it was the heater blower motor and the display fading in and out. Turned out to be the ignition switch. Ive taken it apart. and if the guy still has the old one in the trunk if you are careful you can take them apart and clean the contacts. Theres a metal ring on the front side of the ignition switch make sure you take that off before trying to split the case open.

The ignition switch has six contacts.

well thanks for the info ..i have resolved the problem with the radio it was the wiring harness one of the power wires was rubbing under the dash and it was frayed so i got the radio working now the dic comes on but it sometimes goes out..so ive checked the harness and power comes out of the harness and the unit has a good ground if you hit the dic unit it lights up and works better so im thinking its inside the unit itself so next project is to take it apart and look inside...thanks for the help might have to get a new dic ..maybe...

DIC could very well just be the bulbs... Easy fix.

HEY coolone well i got some issues fixed but now ive tested all the wires there is a orange wire that runs to the radio which ive determined is an acc power wire and there is no power to it when the key is on funny thing ive also traced this wire to the dic now i have given this orange wire power and now the dic comes on and radio but the dic resets itself everytieme i turn the car off now and the radio has to be turned on everytime you get in the car now and start it doesnt come on automatically like before ,, was wondering if u have any clue, or know where i can get a wiring diagram for this ...im thinking my ignition switch is messing with this stuff ive went and baught a new one now ive never installed this type before any tips for me ..do you think this could be the cause bro/...

Ignition switch sounds likely, or a relay... search here as there are a few write-ups on replacing it and or fixes.
I don't remember off hand the fix or I would tell ya'.

Tracing out electrical issues can certainly be a major pita!!!

actually im starting to think its not your accessory feed from the ignition switch that is bad, which the orange wire is. the radio and dlc might have a red wire that should stay at 12v with the key out to keep their memories alive. Maybe you would want to check into that.
