i purchased a high output rebuild kit and pulley drop from asp wholesale and its not putting out anything at idle it will read about 12 .2 volts until i give it a little gas then it will jump up to 14.4......anyway was thinking about going to the junkyard to pick up a oem one until i figure out whats wrong with the rebuilt one.anyone know if there's a stock alt with higher amperage from another vehicle then what normally comes in a grand prix. i have a 99 gt

2000+ Bonneville SSEi, Park Avenue, maybe LeSabre

Check that your field is on though. Meaning that the pcm is commanding the alt to produce voltage. In our tunes.. I believe it's set to turn off under 600rpm.

You could just go to a parts store and have them test things.

Your rpm shouldn't be under 600 unless you have a serious cam etc.

If you'd like I can show you the 2000 Bonnie alt on my 00 Regal. It's the same body alternator. Bolts right up and has more amps. Compatibility.. it'll work, but on stock charts..it's not going to show up.

Just a thought but the 2003 impala l36 can use both the standard 100 amp as well as the police package 120 amp. That's what I planned on switching to when my alt dies in a couple months. In theory it should fit. I suggest you run by a parts store and size it up. It's not super high output but just enough to push a bit more electronics or run an under drive pulley with no loss (still a slight gain) of amperage. Your voltage should be the same across the board with the alts.
