I've been using the long filter on my car ('98 GPGT) for almost as long as I've had my car (Sep '01).

I've never had any fitment issues with this filter until my last two oil changes, it's always been a tad tight but it would always go on.

However the last two oil changes the filter simply wouldn't fit into the available space so that it could be threaded on.

Just curious if anyone else has had any issues, and if not if there are any thoughts as to why I might suddenly be having this problem.

    Thanks guys.

Your engine and/or transmission mounts are collapsing.

Or you have gotten the newer filters. I remember GM changing their spec to some Eco filter and the 52 was no longer the same length.
I drink..so consider that when reading my posts.

I bought one from autozone a couple weeks ago that wouldn't hardly fit, so I went back to walmart and got one and they are different filters. (Design change) Walmart AC52's still fit my car while parts house filters barely will.
