The cost is exactly the same or less. If you buy just a case, that's cheaper than buying a complete unit. Just use some sealant and call it a day.

Apparently, the cases wear in with the rotors pack and should never be mismatched. But at this point, it won't matter.

The issue with cost arises when you want to replace the seals and bearings. Rebuilding the snout requires a press, but can be done with basic tools. The rotor pack bearings are essentially non-serviceable. There's a thread on here about that, and solutions for replacing them short of buying a new rotor pack.

Alternatively, you could keep buying used blowers with decent rotor coatings and just keep using them.

The most expensive option would be either a rebuilt unit from ZZP which comes with a new rotor pack. Also consider a gen V swap, if only for the better rotor coating and case.

A bad rotor coating will chip and be very shiny. The colour of the rotor coating before carbon buildup is a light grey.
Lots of good info. Thanks. How much work is it to swap a Gen V onto my '03 GTP? (If there is a how to, just refer me to that instead of describing the procedure.

And lastly, is it even possible to adapt an M112 blower to the 3800?
