Gates make really great quality products. I've only used their belts but still

I bought a Dayco pulley once. It lasted a few months and started squeaking again, replaced it with a Gates and its been on the car for 2 years now.
before i got my gp, i had a 95 talon, i pulled the engine. rebuild ......blah blah blah...... used dayco belts for fire up. they kept squeeling on me till i touched a lumber crayon to them (had 2)
im guessin it was just really old stock and abit dried out as how many eagles are on the road, im not saying there ****, but thought id let you know
Im not exactly sure what the best and easiest way to keep you guys updated about everything but for the new people viewing the post, im just gonna post updates on the first post. So guys, first update of whats happened so far is on the first post with that video i posted.
Please wish me luck because after all what ive been through, being a rookie with no help an all, i really wanted to total my car because im so sick of this, no help whatsoever there with me doesnt help either.
But to everyone thats posted, thank you because you guys have at least helped me more than others have.
Well I originally meant to replace the whole assembly lol. To do it you'll need to pick up a set of coolant elbows as well and probably a thing of 50/50 anti freeze. I actually have an extra set of those coolant elbows I bought back when I owned a 3.8 I could send ya. Just pay shipping which would only be a couple bucks at the most

Yeah he mentioned something about the elbows. But the avoidance of the assembly was getting a pulley but no way of returning because ive already used it. So now im gonna be sitting here with 2 pulleys, the old 1 which there was never anything wrong with in the first place an this brand new 1, dont know what im gonna do with any of em.
Thats like the Haynes manual right? My dad bought 1 of those for me but never got to put it to use. Will have to pick it up. But please post pictures anyways.
no its not the haynes..its the official gm manuals i bought them on a cd and it has just about every make and model gm vehicle from 97 -2010
but im getting replacement and repair info now
o just to conform you have a 98 gp gt right?
edit: and im assuming its the 3800 motor
it only had one picture and obviously the belt has to be removed and there is the heater core hoses on the top that you can see where they go in the pic. Then on the other end there are two 90 degree bend which are the coolant elbows as their known. its very easy and ive removed a couple of these helping some friends out. so you should be fine if you can take the belt off and have basic tool set. just be careful when pulling the tensioner out because some people including myself have had part of the elbows brake off inside the block. then you get to sit there and use a screw driver and pry the broke part out. not a big deal though
Drive Belt Tensioner Bracket Removal
- Remove the drive belt tensioner bracket bolt.
- Remove the drive belt tensioner bracket.
o and thanks i like this car even though its had a money pits worth of parts i had to replace after i bought it...stupid dealership lied but that aint a surprise
Yes if you love your car enough, you'll put some money into it. I know ive put some money into mine. New sway bar with links an bushings, replaced 2 hub assemblies, threw in 2 brand new headlight assemblies. Theres more to invest, including getting this red door painted but it "needs" parts before that happens.
Thanks for photo, will use it as a reference just in case. Glad i have someone thats gonna help me out so i can get this nasty noise taken care of, then it'll be just the alternator but thats not really heard but i know it'll come soon.
Another update tomorrow, very syked about getting this taken care, its been 2 years or so since ive been dealing with this.
yea if ya need to know any other repair stuff i can pull it up in the repair manual very easily...im slowly but surely learning how to use this software
Congrats...any more problems

On that part of the car, yes power steering pump needs replacing but all other pulleys are fine. Im so not use to my car being so quite now so im pretty excited to finally get this taken care of. Next is that pump, then motor mount and its been confirmed that the rear sway bar links does indeed need replacing also. Alternator seems to be fine so thats kind of a big relief for me. But i have a little bit of a investment, best part about it is im not gonna be paying full price on parts.![]()
