Hey Everyone! This is my first post to this site and I'm hoping one of you can help me because I'm pretty desperate at this point. I bolded the main stuff.
I have a 1997 Pontiac Grand Prix GTP. This car has been babied throughout it's life and no aftermarket stuff is on the car. Recently, I moved to SF Bay area from Indiana and the car was towed here behind a rental truck in case that information is needed. Three months ago, allegedly the fuel pump went out so a genuine AC Delco pump was put in as well as a new fuel pump resistor by a non-GM mechanic.
As of late an intermittent problem occurs, when my Fiance or I attempt to start the car the key gets stuck in the ignition and the car loses all electrical power. The lights to the dash die, the door locks, lights, everything dies. I know the the trick to remove the key by pressing the hidden button under the steering wheel. However, if I insert the key, nothing happens and the key is stuck again. My only solution is to remove the negative side of the battery to sort of "reset" everything which of course resets any codes in the system related to this problem. This most recently occurred on Tuesday.
Later on Tuesday, I parked at one of my destinations and when I went to restart the car, the lights would come on and everything but I couldn't get it started until the third time when I stepped on the accelerator as it turned over. Then later as I'm at a stop light, the car acted like it wanted to stall, everything in the car flickered, and two lights came on: the SRS Air bag light on the dash and the low fuel light on the heads up display (I had over a half tank of gas). When I took off, only the SRS air bag light remained on. At this point I took it immediately to the nearest GM dealership. At the time, they thought either the ignition switch was going bad or the body control module. Anyway, they couldn't get any codes related to the issue and the SRS air bag light stopped showing. So I picked up the car on Wednesday afternoon and they told me to bring it back if it acted up again.
Wednesday evening, my Fiance was driving the car and when he went to turn the car off at one of his destinations, the radio cut out, he heard a loud pop from the speakers and the cd was ejected from the cd player. Then as my Fiance was driving home, all of a sudden, the car loses all electrical power and the engine stalls. He hits the brakes, then all the lights come back on but the engine is still off. He gets it to the side of the road and it takes a few times but he's able to turn it back on. Thursday morning, I took it back in and they couldn't get any codes. They still have the car but haven't had success figuring out what the problem is. They say that the terminals on the battery look clean and that all the fuses are good.
Any suggestions as to what it could be?
