Ok on the way to work I noticed the power went out in my car then came back on. It did it a second time then I pulled over and noticed smoke from the engine bay. Upon further inspection the wire that connects to the fuse box was melting and smoking. Ok at that moment this was what was running In my car

I had a 140 watt inverter plugged up with my iPhone walls charger plugged into. Ac was running. Sub was on BUT kept cutting in and out. Come to think of it the sub wire was smoking as well.

What happened? Too much power on the wires? Can I just replace everything? I'm going to junkyard in the morning so can I just get another one?
How can it be removed? Easy?

    Edit

Her is my nice hood burn mark

Will b covering that with a sticker lol.

    Also her is the culprit

Well the sub wire itself is fine. That's never been an issue.

The wire that is in the pic is the wire that connects to the top of the fuse box. The one that screws down.

Hmm, that wire shorted on something. I would check at your S/C Idler pulley. After replacing a battery, my cables started rubbing on that pulley. And if it rubbed that jacket off and the wire touched the idler bolt, there is nothing to stop the short because that wire isnt fused.

That's s good idea. I'll check it in the later tonight. I wrapped the exposed wire in black electrical tape. Should that b ok?

That's the issue. Can't figure out how to remove the fuse box and thT one wire. Don't want to have to replace all the wires if I can just figure out how to replace that one

If there is a part that isn't melted at the battery terminal, you COULD cut the wire off there and solder in a new one. I would replace them all, grounds and all.

Ok, upon further inspection I can see that soldering is our of my skill set. The wire is still intact it's just thT the insulation surrounding the wire is gone. What's a good fix to re insulate the wires? Rather not go to a shop

soldering wires is more then easy to do. a cheap soldering iron is like 10 bucks, the flux core solder is about 5, the shrink wrap about 5 also for a box of tubes, and then the wire to replace what malted.

heres a vid, this is how like to twist the wires. i use flux core solder tho, so no mess with the flux. just heat up the wires touch the solder and it spreads.

and the wires had a melt down for a reason, you need to find out why, chaffed wires bad grounds, over loaded wires.

    good luck.

Wire connects to positive battery cable. It's the cable that starts at the battery cable and leads to the top of the fuse box

That's not good. It's grounding out somewhere and by the burn mark on your hood i'd say it's hitting there.

Yup. I'm thinking it was the amp wires that was on that same location. I removed the amp wire.

Good call! I didn't even see the hood pic. Not sure how that wire could hit the hood though.
