It kinda makes sense. It is an electronic part after all. If this GP is wired anything like more recent cars, the injectors are on a hot side of the circuit and the PCM supplies the ground through a transistor when it wants it to open. If that transistor has gone bad (think how many times it has switched in its life time) then it would start to cause issues like this.
