I recently found my fan/heater blower motor decided to stay on EVEN after the key was turned off. I found out that the fan blower control module was considered a hot connection meaning once it was stuck closed, the motor would run constantly. I disconnected the BATT 4 fuse and replaced the fan motor control module under the dash on the passenger side. It took about 2 hours and $120.00 for the module. Then the fan worked fine, FOR A WHILE.

Now its intermittent, coming on whenever it wants when the cars running. Now there needs to be a capacitor added to the fan control module wiring harness. Once I added this part, I have no problems since. There was a GM service bulletin announcing this.

So if anyone has this issue, then this will fix the problem.

NOTE: If your fan motor stays on when the key is off, replace the fan motor control module, AND add the capacitor.

NOTE: If your fan motor works periodically, replace the capacitor ONLY.

Hope this helps those who are looking for this issue.

I also replaced the resistor and blower motor just yesterday and the cost was 345.00. So far its working. The blower motors working great now.

The capacitor only cost $10.00 but it did not solve the problem like it was suppose to do.

I had the intermittent problem, and found a wire (E) on the harness connector at the resistor was bad. Spliced in a new connector today, and fixed the problem. Just another thing to check if you're having this problem. Good info. wball.

Thanks, whatever to do to help others with this problem. It seems to be a popular problem to.

Oh, glad to hear you found a wiring problem at the resistor. That will save a few dollars. Good job.

Thanks wball. Yeah, the connector was $35.00, labor $0. If I ever have to change the control module/capacitor, I may ask you for a detailed procedure on how you did it. Nice when someone posts a thread to help everyone else. Much appreciated.

I have a thread with pics about this. My fan would stay on / turn on all by itself when the car was completly off, killing my battery twice. All I did was replace the blower motor resistor, $15 on ebay. My 1 and 2 levels did not work either, then i replaced it cuz it was killing my battery, now I have all 5 again
