Got my GTP because i likd the look and wanted dual exhaust. was going 4 gt. guy had gtp and was worried about gas and GF said get what will make you happy. now i blame her everytime gas goes up
I used to own a 98 LeSabre, I can appreciate Buick luxury. If I had my way i'd have a Regal GS but they are rare and expensive, so my GT it is.
I was originally looking for a Bonneville(and I am now again) but I came across this really well kept, first owner 2001 GT, a Grand Prix is almost full-size so I figured it was big and boaty enough but with attitude, I fell in love and it was reasonably priced, I got a nice sound system and new winter tires, I said yes.
I still dream about SSEis though....
Got my girlfriend an '03 Bonneville a few years ago really liked the way it drove and handled. Started looking for one myself either that body or the generation just before it. found a few but got response from the sellers, then started looking at GP's found my 99 GT at a dealer with 97k, after the test drive fell in love with it. Better power and handling than the Bonneville, plus a lot more mods for the GP. As far as the Bonneville goes since it just an SE I may make it a sleeper, dump in heavy engine mods or a GXP V8 and throw on GXP or SSEi rims for a little more meat.
I'm 6' 3" tall and wanted a full sized car, so I made a short list in 1998 of cars that fit my size (and horsepower) requirements. I test-drove a Dodge Intrepid and liked it okay. Next on the list was a GTP and that's where the test-driving ended. Sorry, Ford Taurus, I never even knew ye.
You wouldn't have liked the taurus unless it was a sho and then you'd only like the exhaust note.
Girlfriend needed a car so gave her my ford probe GT, wanted something sporty but understated, henceforth Pontiac Grand Prix GTP.
10 years and 85,000 miles later still love the car, however still don't like how I can out drive the tires, why they put 16" tires on a car like that I will never know.
bought a 1994 nissan 300zx ( non turbo ) drove it for 5 days before it completely died because i was dumb and didnt check the oil when i bought it.... cuz it had none, so cam got bent out of shape, and piston rings got damaged.. so i said **** it and smashed it was some rocks then took it to scrap yard.
was walking through a dealership and seen a silver 04 gp gt hiding at the back.. fell in love, as i drove around town ( with parents car) noticed more 04 gp's then i thought even existed.. then i started college and a friend that i made had an 04 silver gt... soo i wanted to out due him and bought a 2004 orange gtp compG with 150K for 6,000 it now has 175,000K seen a 2005 gxp with 70K for sale, the guy gave me 10,000 dollars for my car ( has some work done ) towards his gxp that i am now picking up in 2 days![]()
I got a letter in the mail from a local Chevy dealer saying they were interested in my 2004 Malibu Maxx LT, as there was a demand for the car. Had no intentions of contacting them about it but decided to give it a try to see what I could get. The guy told me before he even saw me that he knew what kind of car I would want & showed me the 2008 Grand Prix, as the bank wanted to know what car I was interested in. I drove the car & immediately liked it. Pretty much he fought hard for me to get me approved, sold it for $2000 less than they had it advertised for & gave me $5500 for my Malibu when it was only worth $4500 to them. I wanted an Impala but he said I would like the Grand Prix. He was right & now the car is sitting in my driveway.
Ew, i hate salesmen. I have a brain I don't need them telling me what i would/would not like.
But I'm glad you fell in love with your prix![]()
I had an 06 base rental car in high school. Then when my truck started going to crap I was set on another truck or SUV. I found my 08 for a decent price and I knew they were already comfortable for me and sicne I dont dirtbike or anything anymore, decided to go with the car.
My dealership also fought to get me approved.. I am 22 with only College Loans. He tried a few different banks, and finely went to one where he personally knew someone. They made the dealership drop the price by a $1000 to get me the loan. And they were about to send the car to auction sicne it was sitting so long.
I almost got a 2005 GXP Bonneville, but it was out of my reach... but it was nice.
decent-looking and dirt cheap. 'twas an easy decision.
In December 2010 I was driving my Stealth. I was in the left lane and a gas well truck in the right lane had a piece of unsecured equipment slide off the truck right into my lane where I ran over the top of it. It basically acted as a boat anchor. I had to rev the hell out of my car to even get it off the road. Got off the road and saw my front bumper cover busted up and oil pouring everywhere. Got the guys insurance info, got the car towed, and went to get a rental the next day. Rental was only a craptastic Cobalt, but it got me thinking that I really needed a new car.
Stealth got fixed enough to be drivable, I got a check for $900 for the other damages. First week of Februrary I got my tax return which gave me about $3000 in savings so I started looking around. In my searches I kept seeing Grand Prixs. I wanted to find something in the $3000 range so I didn't have to worry about financing, but anything in that range seemed to be garbage.
End of February I blew the trans in the Stealth. I could have had it drivable in a weekend but decided that was the sign I needed to get a new car. Talked to the company president since he owns a lot of property and has a dealer license. He put me in contact with a local dealer.
Got there and there sat an 07 black/black GT. Talked to the guy, told him who I was, he threw me the keys and said take it for a spin. Hit the highway and floored it. I was shocked at how fast it was, because I did not know at the time that the 07 GT's were indeed supercharged. When I got back to the dealer lot I popped the hood and saw the supercharger sitting there. I knew it was the car I wanted.
After a little wheeling and dealing even though the car was already marked down $800, he took another $500 off because I came so highly recommended. After a day or so of financial swingling I picked the car up and drove it home for a whopping $175 a month.
I was looking for either a Regal GS or a GTP. Found a gtp in good shape for 1,100. Bought it. Wish i had the comfy regal seats. lol
