Thread: Are optima batteries really worth it?

i cant justify paying +200 for a ****in battery

i run duralast gold batteries in both my cars 8 year warranty for 90.00. Cant beat that

Personally, yes, I think it was worth it. My start have just been better and they are a great battery.

They are great batteries. I had a yellow top for 9 yrs without a problem. I probably coulda got more out of it, but someone hit me and totaled the car. Not to mention, I had a 2500w stereo that it was running for 4 of those 9 years. And even in the winter when it was below 0, started right up. They are hard batteries to kill.

The advantage of optima batteries I believe, is that they are deep cycle batteriers, so they'll take longer to discharge. And they're gelcells, meaning they're spill proof.

mine is awesome, can go to drive double features not even worry about it, left my interior lights on over night car started just fine in the morning. I had to jump start the 09 G6 over the weekend becaused i listened to music for an hour and a half with out the car running, thats not an issue for my red top, but yeah they are stupid expensive

I had a yellow top for 9 years with no issues. I replaced it with a red top which only lasted 7 months. I have since gone back to a standard battery.

ive had a duralast gold in all my cars and havent had a problem with them. hit just below zero this year and didnt even phase it. hell the wifes car came with a everlast and for 4 years havent had a problem with it either.

duralast gold for the win!....optimas are cool for custom builds since they can be mounted anywhere, like upsidedown backwards or sideways it wont matter and its vibration resistant so if you arent pullin crazy amps (like the optimas are rated for) its not neccessary but they are great batteries

I've got a red top in my GF's car that was manufactured in 2003 and it's still cranking hard, even through this past winter with all the cold and snow. Got a brand new one in my car just recently. No problems from it, either.

I love my redtop been going strong for 5 years now. I had an alternator go on my and even after the low voltage light came on it made it another 15 miles or so on the highway and almost home.... Walking distance, drove my truck back to the car and let the truck charge the car for like 10 minutes and it made it the mile or so back just fine. I will buy a yellowtop next time though just cause they can handle more deep cycles than the red.

Optima batteries have a certain niche that they fill. Buy a battery that fills your correct need. If you don't need a dry cell, then don't buy one.

Optima batteries while mostly good, have a reputation for dropping single cells. This makes them weak and problematic. They appear to have this issue much more than a standard battery.

Want a low cost battery? hit up the local JY's and pick up one that was freshly put into a car and then crashed.
