I am trying to figure out what my next step is. Have a 1999 grand prix GT. the fan completely quit working so I have replaced the blower motor and blower resistor. now it wont work on level five but works perfectly on 1-4. I would think that the next step is the blower switch but i am not finding any info on if my car really has a blower switch and where it located. I am new at working on the mechanics end but REALLY want to learn.

Do you have power going to the resistor on setting 5? The blower switch is the switch that you use to control the speeds.

Lol okay now i feel really stupid. Resistor and blower are brand new. started with the new blower and got no response with it in placed. pulled the old resistor and found it cracked and broken and the green protective coating missing in places. replaced resistor with a new one and now the blower motor works but i get no motor response in level 5.

New parts are not always good, check for power on setting 5 going to the resistor.

    setting five by-passes the resister.

Please post in the correct section.

On most chevy's when that happens we replace the resistor and the connector for the resistor. Check and see if the connector has any burnt or melted spots on the inside area when the leads are. if so it could have arced and shorted the new one when you plugged it in... seen it happen so many times its not funny'

If connector is good, resistor is good.... i would say wiring short or the switch...

Thanks! i checked the blower motor resistor connector for any signs of damage and it looked great. guessing a bad blower switch? to add to the problem, now i have pretty good A/C but it blows harder on the passnger side and when i switch to heat it barely blows on either side but still is stronger on the passenger side. combine that with i have a coolant leak somewhere. so i am forseeing work on the heater core/hose, flushing the coolant system, maybe blend door work and and new ignition switch? could any of those extra things cause my fan not to work on 5 other then the bad blower switch? also my digital display(radio channel and time) has been out forever. not a huge deal but wondered if it was linked to ignition switch going bad.
