Thread: Overheated

i was driving down the highway the other day when suddenly my temp gauge starts going higher and higher, and overheats before i can get stopped. so i pull off at the next exit at a truck stop and see that the rad is completely dry. Fill it up with water, and i see it all leaking out of a small hole right by the fan. I've put a ton of stop leak through it, which works for a bit, but then starts leaking again. Im going to get a rad today and put it in...do you think the motor will still be fine, no warped/cracked heads, head gaskets etc.? ughhhh i hate this car sometimes

All depends on how hot and how long. I think your on the right track replacing the rad though.

Honestly depends on how far/long you had to drive it while it was over heating. Replacing the rad is the first step I would think.

replace rad then id do a compression test on it should be fine though

i just went to the wreckers and got a rad out of a regal with 75 km on it. going to put it in now. we'll see how it goes

Yeah i figured so...but now i broke the bottom tranny line getting it out of the old rad cause it was rusted to ****

what temp t stat did you put in? stock is 195
