so i searched around here and could not find someone who had the exact problem i have. maybe because mine just started? the car stalled twice today in the taco bell drive thru. in drive the whole time, i finished ordering my lunch and before i took my foot off the brake i felt the engine shut off just as if i turned the key to accesory from ON, the radio and heat were still on with no problems. i restarted it like usual and pulled up and waited in line about 2 minutes when it did it again! i got my food, left, and whenever i came to a stop on the way back to school, i put it in neutral and gave it a little gas (just over 1000 RPMs) to keep the RPMs up and i didnt have any problems. my DIC is not currently hooked up (i should have my harness shipped to me next week) so idk if the TRAC light is comming on and i got no SES light. but the tach reads the RPM drop like it normally would during a normal shut off. the MAF was replaced last fall and plugs/wires replaced last summer.

any ideas? initally i thought something with the fuel pump or CPS or a coil pack going bad but after reading maybe its different? i drive alot so i want to make sure i get this at an early stage as i cant afford to get stuck anywhere.

    thanks for the responses

got this figured out! it was, of all things, the stupid MAF again! so this time i put a lifetime warrentied one in. it threw a MAF code today so that solved my questions. im just glad it was an easy fix and not the fuel pump or CPS, yay

I think you may have solved my problem!! I have a '99 GT and it is doing the same thing.. I drive down the road and it just stalls.. Starts back up and runs fine. I have been reading some different forums so I replaced the Crankshaft sensor and that wasn't it. It looks like I may have to try the MAF. I am no Mechanic.. That is Mass Air Flow correct? Is it easy to change?

ok... i have an '01 gp gt and I'm experiencing the same problems. however, i have replaced my MAF sensor and it is continuing to stall. I have also got a new ICM, new battery, new plugs and wires and is still stalling on me. I'm thinking that it may be the CPS but you said above that it didn't solve the problem... so idk what it could be. help!

It's a 2001. It's stock with 147k miles on it its nit sputtering at all or misfiring. Yesterday I check my tranny fluid and it was way overfilled so i took some out and it's running good now no stalls so far but I'll have to wait a little while to make sure I'll keep you posted

it was the MAF again, this problem was solved long ago. i learned that MAF going bad comes with some tricky symtoms that are not always the same
